There were never any great trade deals

I didn't say I didn't want a border with Ireland, I said I wanted a soft border, like the one that existed after partition in 1921 and the Anglo-Irish Treaty, a Treaty that was in place long before the EU was thought of, and why the Irish will eventually fall out of love with the EU.

Unfortunately, the information pumped out at the time of the referendum was somewhat incorrect, if not down right misleading, the incumbent Prime Minister TOTALLY mis-read the general populations feelings because of our friend Nige [who did not appear to get any recognition in the Honours list ??] or did he and I missed it?

Combine this with the [what was seen back then] as the rise and rise of [what turned out to be] a completely hollow political party headed and run by our Nige which really spooked the main Westminster parties and there was the perfect way ahead.

IF, as a result of the EU shenanigans, we end up with a hard border. ROI is fuked. Half of their gdp is agriproducts, the majority of which comes to the UK, what doesn't come to the UK transits through the UK, 100% of Irelands Gas and Electricity comes from the UK, stick tariffs on that lot and see what happens, ROI will need emergency bailouts within weeks, the EU can't afford it, they're struggling with their budget plans already, they genuinely believed up until a few weeks ago that we wouldn't be leaving, silly boys.

The other half of Irelands GDP is taxes, corporation tax to be specific, with a rate of 12.5% Ireland has become the largest tax haven in the world, and the majority of that is from just 10 US companies.
It's a little embarrassing for the EU so they're trying to bring to bring that little caper to an end, the Irish think they're protected until 2024 but the EU will end their veto on the tax situation long before that.

Why do you think Boris was so adamant on getting rid of the level playing field clause from the withdrawal agreement, he's not daft enough to agree to 20+% corporation tax when the wee chaps in Ireland are charging half that.

I'll say it again, Ireland will leave the EU, they can't afford not to.
