Recently 4 sockets added to my extension on a new ring main using 2.5mm cable. Contactor laid all the cables. But the electrician (tester) commented that 'under-sized cable'. Dont understand why?

can anybody explain, please...

It may not be a "ring"

A ring has sockets on a length of cable that starts at the consumer unit ( fuse box ) and after going round all the sockets returns to the consumer unit. Both ends connect to the same MCB which can be rated at 32 Amp.

It may be the sockets are on a radial where the cable goes not further than the furthest socket and does NOT return to the consumer unit.

A radial needs to be wired in 4mm² cable or have a lower rated MCB supplying it.

Hi, if the cable is enclosed in insulation material he may have assessed it should be 4.00mm, hence ,in his opinion "underrated".

Kind Regards,

DS
