Someone is trying to start a war in the Ukraine, It's NOT Russia (edit: yes it is)

Interestingly...

Quite a few nations provide rotational 'air policing' fighters (usually 4) to Iceland.
Currently they are Portuguese F16's.
Apparently the current rotation is to stay and be added to.

"Oleksandr Pavlyuk, Ukrainian joint forces commander, said the situation around Donetsk and Luhansk had deteriorated over the past three days. “If we take into consideration the past three months there were three to five ceasefire violations per day. Compared to that number, on Feb 17 we had 60 incidents of ceasefire violations by the Russian Federation Forces and 43 incidents of weapons banned by the Minsk agreements,” Pavlyuk said.

Ukraine said two soldiers were killed and four injured during shelling in the eastern border region of Donbas on Saturday, where more than 14,000 have died in a slow-burning war that broke out after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014."

Remember when the Russians shot down a civil airliner?

"The responsibility for investigation was delegated to the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) and the Dutch-led joint investigation team (JIT), who concluded that the airliner was downed by a Buk surface-to-air missile launched from pro-Russian separatist-controlled territory in Ukraine.[6][7] According to the JIT, the Buk that was used originated from the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Federation[8][9] and had been transported from Russia on the day of the crash, fired from a field in a rebel-controlled area and returned to Russia afterwards.[1][2][8] "

History seems to be repeating itself.
Last time around Hitlers version of NATO appeared to be the answer to Russian 'aggression' unfortunately for the Russophobes the only thing they achieved was to turn Russia into a super power.

Or there are some people who just can't be reasoned with.
They are called diplomats and we all have them often called something else. Total agreement is rare. ;) They wouldn't be needed otherwise.

How's the EU plan to shun NATO and set up their own army going?
No not shun NATO but set up their own. Actually a security wings has always been around They were providing observers in Ukraine but reports that they have been removed from Donbas recently. Some countries do deploy troops in other countries at times so why not form an EU army?

The only country in the last few years that stood up to the Russians was Turkey in Syria
downed one of putins migs
Due to a rather short time interval in Turkish air space and not that far in it either ;) if it was. 2 planes concerned one shot down.
President Erdogan warned that "everyone should respect the right of Turkey to defend its borders".
He also noted that Turkey's actions were fully in line with the new rules of engagement adopted after Syria shot down a Turkish jet in 2012. The rules state that all "elements" approaching from Syria are considered an enemy threat.

An odd period as both the USA and Russia was bombing IS. They appeared to have split one area of Syria into 2 but Russia was also bombing anti Assad fighters fed by Turkey and backed by the west, An interesting comment about those and where this incident happened
Rebels from Syria's ethnic Turkmen community, whose villages Turkey said had been bombed by Russian aircraft in recent weeks, opened fire at the crew as they tried to parachute into government-held territory.
They also killed some one in a helicopter sent to recover the fighter pilots.

Yet another problem caused by lines drawn on maps yonks ago that leave ethnic problems in the countries that were formed. ;) We even have them in the UK. Spain does as well. Many do. Turkey was upset when the USA armed Kurds as they have had problems with them.

Important and factual info unlike the "intel" from usa/uk.

Flightradar shows shorter flights still flying over dangerous areas.

Russian military vehicles marked with the letter Z seen for some
days, nothing new as these are often separatists.

Russian forces moving around early hours of the morning from their camps towards the border, this has
been going on for years to wind up the other side.

Shelling, it has increased and part and pacel of the goading by Russia

Russia will take the remain bits of Dombas as more than 80% of the people are Russian speaking and pro-Russian.

Never forget the intel the usa/usa are using is the same method they used when they told the
world re "WMD's" and that is a fact. It's not the fault of intel /people but
the inbreeds that feed the edited misinformation to us. EG attack on "wednesday"

NATO appeared to be the answer to Russian 'aggression'

No that isn't what caused NATO to form. It's more of a cold war thing probably with a touch of good grief when they saw what Russia did rather quickly when they really joined WWII. It was the North Atlantic Treaty initially and NATO formed around the time of the Korean war. It also contains this lot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partnership_for_Peace

You might say Russia's problem is different politics and high levels of natural resources - much like the USA. Oil is why Hitler tried to invade.

The cold war seems to have kept things quiet up to recent years other than some hidden wars where countries send small numbers of troops in also arms. Times change.

war that broke out after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014."
Nice piece of propaganda.
War broke out because EU/US backed Ukranian nationalists overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine, this in turn kicked off the uprising in Eastern Ukraine and demands for autonomy.

Very itneresting and bit I was not aware of until I heard a bit about it on LBC radio.

Thank you

Remember when the Russians shot down a civil airliner?

The only thing that is certain is that a Russian weapon shot down a plane. We often hear similar but not who is actually using them. We do not hear the same comment in areas like this
The UK remains one of Saudi Arabia's largest arms suppliers – and UK arms continue to be used in Yemen – with persistent claims that it is disregarding regulatory laws. The resulting conflict has devastated the country. The UN has said the humanitarian situation in Yemen has reached a 'surreal and absurd' dimension.

We may well have advisers there too and in other places. Fact of life. If Russia is involved with a country their arms will be there as well. If some group needs more they will get them just as with the Yemen and various insurgents around the world from who ever supplies them.

Vinty says.

Remember when the US shot down Iran’s airliner?
In 1988 it was the US that targeted a civilian plane – and immediately tried to cover it up, with the full support of Britain.

That is true.
It most likely a case of a civilian airliner straying into a warzone and was shot down by mistake.
Cant see what was to be gained by Russia shooting down a civilian aircraft.
As i have pointed to John D the Americans did the same thing to an Iranian airbus.
