i was intrigued by your statement that they "turn off".[/quote]
They do on some motors, mainly big engines, of course this is not true for all. but i was just using that as an example to explain the main differences power wise. super for low, turbo for higher.
The jags i think have a supercharger which stops at a certain speed or above by disengaging, maybe because the charger just cant keep up at that speed? Also some Merc Amg's have electro magnetic clutch allowing switching off/on depending load rpm's.
I think Tech has come along way now it depends on how a maker manufactures these devices as to how they perform as some modern day petrol engine turbo's have virtually nil lag and hold boost to redline.

some have a clutch and others have a bypass. im certainly no expert but i think they run out of puff at higher revs if you want the low down grunt where its really needed. im in the extremely early stages of putting one on my car.....cant wait
mad max's weedy mechanic had the right idea with the big red lever on the gearstick.....who in their right mind doesnt think that is the best way to control your big fork off weiand supercharger
much better

lols, thats sounds like a interesting project, i thinks its way cheaper supercharging aswell to turbo'ing a car.
I'm still having to get round to taking the turbo off and getting new seals/bearings as its starting to pass oil. Think when summer comes round i'm thinking of a full rebuild, should be interesting and a learning curve.
Good luck
