The crumbustion chamber?

Fact is you can find any information to all things gas related online,so the cc is pointless :?:

There seem to be a few frustrated wannabee gas engineers on here....joe, fatbloke etc. Wassup lads? can't you pass your ACS then? Why not get someone clever (like wot I am) to do them for you, there a doddle....two grand should cover it, then you too could be earning upwards of a hundred grand a year for doing next to nothing.......and more important, be a full fledged member of the fabled combustion chamber.

On the electrics forum they are forever talking a different language from the rest of the normal population, presumably because their field is complex and professional. Why do the gassafe members feel that their own forum needs to be hidden behind closed doors - surely anything that is complex will be beyond the punters' heads, and anything basic is hardly likely to be mentioned anyway.

Is there any chance of providing an example of a "dangerous" conversation (obviously with specific real "numbers" changed or blanked out)?

Nah, they can't ever provide an actual conversation (dangerous or otherwise) as they can only speak of such things in the grand lodge.

Them and their moose head hats. "Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for his worshipful master..."

Can't take the chance. We wouldn't want it on our conscience if you went and killed yourself now would we?
I'll make an exception for fatbloke though so I'll give him a little hint. If you are trying to poison yourself with gas mush, it won't work.....so light a ciggy after five minutes.

All these experts on here, and I posted the fault with my own boiler, and several times, everyone got the diagnosis incorrect. So not an expert. Told me to throw money at this and that. Which I did. An 'expert' even stole twice from me, once for fitting a 4 Amp fuse, where a 750mA fuse should be, the other, replacing a diaphram (sp), but nicking my multimeter.

Yeah, gas experts are experts, in extracting money from people for no work, at excessive charges. No wonder the public have a go at fixing it, the industry is corrupt. And some of the posts on here, by these experts, confirm that.

The 'expert' that fitted a 4 Amp fuse instead of the origional, said 24 hour call out, so I called him at 4am, and he blew a fuse at me..that's customer service for you. How can you get away with this?

With the exception of one person the other week who made a silly but potentially dangerous mistake during an annual inspection (this has been covered elsewhere ;) ), I have found every gas-engineer who has been involved in installations, maintenance or repair to be professional, knowledgable, accurate and fairly priced. Over the years I have had three boilers installed in my houses, and worked alongside 7 more on sites, and had nigh on 20 repairs/maintenance procedures over the last decade or so.

Obviously I can't comment on you own experiences Mickymoody but feel that in the interest of balance that my own should also be noted.

I'm still curious as to what sort of things are discussed in the CC that a casual passer-by might decide to use in their own home

Its quite appropriate the CC is closed off to the prying eyes of the lay man otherwise they would be shocked that so called pro`s know so little. Some of the guys are top class blokes but a lot of them must have got there qualifications free in a lucky bag.

 There is an element of that in there.

The CC isnt as exciting as it sounds

The CC has as much to do with diynot covering its own ass in relation to gas work. The forum has a policy of not giving gas specific advice. Joe public will get all sorts of silly diy idea's reading some threads in CC.

If you feel like your missing out do your acs and join in :D

I agree with you.

Thats why these trades need better regulating and parts being available to the public shouldn't be.
Couldn`t agree more - and because every bloody thing in little britain is half arsed - I wouldn`t subscribe to Corgi and just stopped doing gas  Does anybody know which countries have proper regulation of building trades ? . I`ll bet it`s most of the EU and the rest of the world

That reminds me of an advert British Gas once put out, telling us how great their engineers were and how they were even qualified to do such amazing things as "replace a drive belt on a washing machine", which is something my mother can do.   Then, not content with boasting about his prowess with a screwdriver (was it philips or pozi - and did he even know the difference    ), this guy went on to tell us how he had to learn about "two new boilers every year".

Wow! Only six months to learn about a new boiler.   He wouldn't last six weeks around here. "Which end do the electrons go in again?   " Come on guys. Of course you have to know what you're doing before you open up a boiler but it's hardly rocket science is it.

That says it all. We can't have some numpty leaving an unlit gas ring on all day then, when the debris has settled, saying "but somebody on DIYnot said ---   "
