There's going to be some severe disppointment once people see what Starmer actually does once in power. He will be the next PM, it's almost inevitable.

I reckon that people are currently more annoyed with the government than they have been in living memory, for an assortment of reasons. When Labour inevitably do disappoint then I wonder if people will actually wake up and realise that there isn't a party that stands for the majority of people.

Tories look after the toffs.
Labour look after scroungers.

Nobody cares about the majority in the middle.

Both are riddled with career politicians who haven't a clue what the real world looks like and only look after their own interests.

I'll be voting, but for absolutely anyone other than the main parties, which are both two cheeks of the same arse. Reform, independent, Lib Dem, Green... it doesn't matter, just whatever your local available options are. Don't keep voting for two slightly different variations of the same rubbish.

Two hotels (which were functioning, profitable venues!) were closed to house them my way. The staff were given 24-48 hours’ notice then effectively sacked. Both hotels owned by French hotel companies, which I can’t blame for wanting to take a nice payment from the Home Office, but of course it’s an absolute stab in the back for the staff and an impact on the local economy. The hotels were used for functions and often hosted people who were connected to businesses between Derby and Nottingham.

Of course nobody was informed or consulted on the change of use of the hotels (apparently even our MP was not aware, and publicised this fact), but there was a residents meeting held not long after it became news. Feedback at the meeting revealed an increase in theft and suspicious activity including young men hanging around the gates of the two nearby schools. Of course ‘suspicious activity’ can be very ambiguous, but I drive past these hotels daily and the men are always spilling into the locality. The woods behind one hotel are effectively an open toilet.

There comes a point when one has to say “we don’t need these people here”.

You may well joke....
Taking the dogs for a walk along the river on the Herts/Essex border I see 4 tents ⛺️. I didn't see a GP.

This was today, I often see tents now and people sleeping in cars.

Same in Bristol. Got a big, unofficial campsite of motorhomes on The Downs. And they're not even p***ys.

Close your eyes and pretend you can't see the obvious truth. Don't discuss it, otherwise a do-gooder will tell you you're a horrible wacist.

Perhaps they just need a hug, the poor things.

There was actually a recent rally in the town under the banner "Refugees Welcome" which in itself isn't a bad thing, but it's the complete ignorance amongst the placard wavers of any potential problems and the sheer naivety that any who come here do so purely to fit into society and contribute to the economy. Any attempt at reasonable conversation and debate on this just gets met with the usual deluge of remarks about being a racist. I give up trying…

I really (genuinely) hate to judge all under a single banner, but I also care about my community and the people in it. We have no power in law as citizens to do anything.

Protests are pretty much banned, unless you're chanting the same rubbish as those in power, e.g. Refugees Welcome, No More Oil.

The one remaining thing we can all do is to vote for anyone other than the two parties that have been systematically trashing the country for decades by excluding all other choices.

We need a better electoral system other than first-past-the-post. This will only ever happen if we damage the two parties that get their stranglehold from it. This will only ever happen if we get a hung election and some sort of coalition government, but something more disruptive than the wet lettuce Lib Dems were the last time, but I think they've learnt their lesson now and will be much more awkward the next time.

Agree the system doesn't really work. I can't remember which election it was, but didn't UKIP get the third highest number of votes but didn't get a single seat? What adds to the problem is the massive political disengagement amongst the population -- turnout figures are alarmingly low.

Two party state for eternity unless something changes!

Bring back the NF
I don't know if you're joking or not, but this sort of comment just fuels those who accuse those who are concerned about immigration of being racists.

The NF were racists. Most people who are concerned about immigration are not racists, just people who live in the real world who see the very real issues.

Hmm I thought you said

There really isn't some brainless Tories vs Labour gang battle in which we've all picked our team. Some of us actually think about who we're going to vote for, based on issues and performance.

Difficult to believe that you mean what you say

The reason the system doesn't work is because no effort has been put into it until very recently.

What's needed is change, re focus on what the voting public want.

Not voting or just voting for somebody that won't get into power but is just a protest will be wasted and we will just get more of the same

Fortunately, you've softened the blow, for us all.
Me personally, it was always about ridding the government of the Brexer liars. Thankfully, the UK is on the right track where that is concerned.

The uk and most of the people here only want to look good. So can’t say no to the massive influx of immigrants.

Keir, Rushi, Borris are all the same. Blair had some backbone once.
I have no recollection of Bliars backbone

Ah, our good old friend Brexit. That bogeyman that's now responsible for everything that's not as good as it was in the old days.

I don't remember there being any good old days when we were in the EU. The UK's a basket case, and has been for decades, whether in the EU or not.

All politicians have told lies, for ever. You're definitely in for disappointment if you're expecting truth and honesty from the Labour party.
