Why because there food is slightly different, and they get drunk far leas, and they speak a different language, and they use a different currency?Yet significantly different culture and outlook on the world.
But both have lost an empire, more or less at the same time, both countries suffer from the pull of the centre (France-Paris, UK-London), which causes regional envy, both are struggling with accommodating large immigrant populations, both rely on the service sector in their economies, etc.
Someone very recently said, just last week, I believe, something about there being more that unites us, that binds us, etc... Now who was that? There's much more that contributes to national characteristics than pure genetic ethnicity.
In fact there is a part of France called Britany due to the influx of Britons. Calais was the last are of France to be ruled by Britain, I believe about half of France was ruled by and from Britain at one time. Many of the migrants into UK are from France and its many regions and colonies. I believe the largest group of French outside of France is in London.
I believe we share common ancestry.
etc, etc.
