Think it was half a V8 - 1 bank of cylinders. Seem to remember that GM was planning to fit a 'small block' V8 into the FD(?) Victor or did in overseas markets. Certainly saw V8 victor at the 'Pod in the early '70's.
As I remember it, that’s an urban myth.

How did you get away with this insulting language. I bet Minion never see this.... otherwise he would have your guts for garters. Then the two dribblers would be along..
Hitch-hiking in the 60's, I was given a short lift in one of those - an amazingly smooth ride. Later I was tempted to buy one, until I saw the extent of the plumbing under the bonnet and the complexity, so bought a Ford Cortina.
When I worked in Italy, a couple, the husband of which I worked with, offered to take me out for the day one Sunday to show me around the area, in the back of one of those 500's. Terrible cramped and noisy.
Had a MK1 back in the day, it seemed mental.
The produced the Ventora, which was fitted with an inline 6 cylinder 3L, from I think a Bedford. Extremely torque it was drove like a train.
