Timer Extractor Fan Wiring - Cable Choice?

They usually come with a 13A fuse pre-fitted (which personally I find annoying, people just leave the 13A in regardless of the load) but your sparky will have plenty of 3A fuses that he can use in the FCU.

Thank you soo much for clearing this jargon out for me!

I really appreciate it.

cheers!

What cable is suitable for this set up?
Your electrician will know, and will have it with him when he arrives.

I have just notified the builidng control in my area and they will take 48 hours to approve.
Surely it would have been a lot cheaper to employ a registered electrician rather than paying a non-registered one and the LABC fee?

I am not going to be doing this job myself but will get a sparky.
OK - I guess we were misled somewhat by
Do i have to install a 3A fuse between the fan isolator and the fan?

Simple question regarding connecting a timer extractor fan in the bathroom.
Do i have to install a 3A fuse between the fan isolator and the fan?
I am just buying all the stuff before he arrives.
How many FCUs did you plan to buy?

Does that mean you can simply replace the 13A fuse with a 3A fuse?
Yes - amazing isn't it?

While your electrician is there you should probably have him check all the plugs in the house, as they too take advantage of the fact that fuses come in different ratings, and as you've been blissfully unaware of this you might have 13A fuses where you shouldn't.

Does this explain why i cant located a 3A FCU?
Yup - and it explains why you are very wise to be getting an electrician to do this job.

:D

Thanks for clearing the stuff for me.

I will not bother lodging my application to building control anymore as i plan to get it done by a sparky anyways.

cheers!

Will they let you cancel, and refund your fee?:

I have just notified the builidng control in my area and they will take 48 hours to approve.

I have not paid them yet, i spoke to them earlier and explained what i wanted to do. They said it was notifiable and would send me the form so that i can lodge the application.

I will just ignore this form as i found out that if i get a registered electrician to do the job, then i do not need to pay Building control as i will be issued with a certificate from the sparky anyways.

Building control are happy with this as long as the sparky is registered to either one of the following:

BRE
BSI
ELECSA
NAPIT
NICEIC

Does this sound about right?
