Trade with EU

Only if we didn't trade with EU, otherwise we're still bound by their regulations and legislation.

Indeed, but only on the goods and services that we sell to the EU. Just like we have to comply with the regulations of the US market, Japanese market, just about every market that we sell in and have no say in the regulations.

The person currently using the name Davie Jones obviously didn't read my link about Switzerland.

You're happier not knowing that the Swiss have agreed to obey EU banking regulations, and not "only on the goods and services that (they) sell to the EU."

That, I'm sure is the decision of the Swiss. They sell more to the EU than the EU sell to them so the EU is in the catbird seat. That doesn't apply to the UK/EU relationship

whereas, for Financial Services, which in the UK is bigger than the entire manufacturing sector, UK sells vastly more than it buys.

As you know.

But financial services are just one arm of British exports and are still small when compared to what they sell to us. They can penalise our financial services industry all they like, they will soon stop when we penalise their imports.. The big manufacturers will not allow the EU to ruin such a large market. As you know.

It might seem large to you.

What we sell to the EU is about 50% of what we export, so it's important to us.

What proportion of what the EU exports comes to us, do you think? How important is it to them?

The question is, can the EU manufacturers afford to lose our business. Tariffs would have an impact on both sides but would have a greater and more lasting effect on the EU manufacturers. There is nothing that they sell to us that we cannot buy from elsewhere or make ourselves. Better for them to let sleeping dogs lie and not raise tariffs against the UK

question too difficult for you?

Everybody knows that leaving the EU will have an impact on trade.

Tariffs would have an impact on both sides but would have a greater and more lasting effect on the EU manufacturers.
you just made that up, didn't you.

That's not true

We know it will impact trade, we don't know how much.

We know there will be years of negotiation and new treaties. We don't know how long they will take or what the result will be.

We know we will lose influence in Europe.

We know that with half our trade going to the EU, it will make a big difference to us. We know that with a much smaller proportion of EU exports coming to us, it is less important to them. Even though this is a point than some posters prefer to hide from.

I'll go with EFL John.

I don't think we KNOW anything.
Way too much supposition really.

you just made that up, didn't you.

If you understood the EU, then you would understand just how accurate my statement is but you are a very bitter and negative person determined to show how afraid you are of positive change
