I think this is stupid and I'm far from being a liberal PC snowflake. I'd hire someone based on how they come across when I meet them. I wouldn't not hire any particular race or religion or nationality because I don't have preconceptions about them. Of course you go with your gut instinct on most people but whose stupid enough to categorise it in such a way. It's almost as though the OP has a tick box in his head - ''need a plasterer? Right - got to be jamacian!''

Nothing racist when describing how different cultures work, that's part of life. I find the Easter Europeans work long hours, but the Poles can be messy. I'm seeing more Lithuanians lately, and they seem okay.

And HawkEye, lighten up please, it's just a general discussion. We'd all follow your example and take on the people we feel we can trust - no matter what nationality they are, but there are certain sterotypes that we've all noticed, and there are exceptions as well.

I think that must be a trick question, because I know loads of trades that go into London to work, so there can't be any living there.

I don't think this thread is any worse than generalising over car drivers. BMW drivers are dicks (I had one), van drivers are idiots (I had a van too!) and volvo drivers, well, less said the better.

And what's wrong with Volvo drivers ?
My mum's boiler engineer has dreadlocks but it doesn't stop him being someone I'd recommend.
