Travelers

First, do they travel because they want to, or because they don't have a house to call home, ?

They drive around in new 4x4s and caravans bigger then my house, so they can't be short of cash. So in my opinion it's because they want to.
I dont if you've heard about the travelers up my way, but they have been shooting each other, wtf is that all about then, no wonder they get bad press, when they travel around carrying guns, making a mess.
Why don't they swop there caravans for boats, and go sailing to the north pole, so the only thing they upset is a fooking pola bear.

Rant over.

Round my way, they set up pitch on playing fields and parks because knocking down a gate is cheaper than paying rent.

And leaving it strewn with rubbish and those orange propane cylinders that may just possibly have been stolen from roadbuilders sites is cheaper than paying council tax and fuel bills.

You seem very imformative about this subject, you've haven't got a 4x4 and a caravan by any chance, ;)

 so i take it they arn't paying there tax'es, other wise they would be driving around in a escort and a tent in the boot.

I wonder if 'turfing' the traveller off private land depends upon who owns that land?
Not far from us relatively recently, some travellers took up residence in a field .. The law arrived mob handed, turfed them out -- UNTAXED vehicles as well ( as pointed out by locals watching the action, and ignored by the law )... Within yards one of those large vans left the road and damaged a person's home, the occupants of the van scarpered -- watched by an amazed, soon to be angry, home owner....

Who paid?

Something wrong here isn't there? :(

"More on Roma folk" phew! talk about flogging a dead horse  we should be experts on this subject  we can always visit the old thread for inspiration.
p.s anyone know what happened to global warming?

I don't know any Roma, but there is a school playing field behind my house.

Several times it has been occupied.

I think we've got more travellers here than anywhere else in the country and that's how it's always been!

Thing is, most here have bought the land they live on, yet the council still want them to leave

They seem to have their own code of conduct and their own laws too. Recently, there have been several dawn raids on a local site and quite a few arrests. Who do you think the informers were? Yup, other travellers...

They don't ALL want to live a life on t'other side of the law you know  I would say that around 90% of the travellers here work on the land, all year round in all weathers - they are the only ones who will do this work!

Yes, there are some awful families and I have come across them too but then I used to live next door to some quite wealthy people who were the worst neighbours I've ever had

Treat everyone as you want to be treated yourself I would say and no, it wouldn't bother me if they moved in a close proximity to me. I've lived near to them before (having always lived in the country) & if you are OK to them, then they are 9 times out of 10, OK to you.

In fact, I have two very good female friends who are both from gipsy families and they are both really lovely, honest people who would do anything for you.
