I'm not sure she'll ever make it as a tour guide but it was interesting to take a winter walk around a place i haven't seen, although recognise in other towns and cities like Derby, Stoke or Nottingham. A telling indicator of the way a population demographic changes is Polish communities leaving and Asian communities growing in their place.
Many Poles settled in these areas after WWII and faced some hostility by residents as they made a living, usually in setting up corner shops just as Asians do these days. It's sad to see those churches run down and surrounded by roads, covered in graffiti and pigeons but the congregations have moved or died and mosques reflect the new faith of people living there.
