Well Well Well, here is some real evidence after all.
I'm reminded of the scene in Madagascar, where the penguins make it to Antarctica, and just say "Well this sucks". You don't have people wanting to live there as its not a nice place for much of the time. Infact it takes an enormous psychological toll on people who stay over winter.
Mars is an order of magnitude worse.
Going to Mars for science or just to get there? Great!, but anything else is a terrible idea.
Everything about Mars is horrible. The dust is poisonous, the radiation is horrible. The idea that we would want to spend prolonged periods there would necessitate growing your own food. What in?
There are so many things that could fail, and you'd die.
Doing the equivalent on Earth (eg. staying in Antarctica) would be far less dangerous, as rescue is possible.
