UFO / UAP

That sounds right. Every time I think about space and distances I have to remind myself that they're so huge I'm underestimating them.

But I wasn't thinking of a collision, more a close pass a mere light year or two away.

From what I have read and listened to, MW and Andromeda galaxies will "collide", but in the sort of way two groups of Red Arrows-type planes, heading straight towards each other, will "collide": each plane will pass by the ones coming the other way.

Only in the case of the stars within the galaxies; at much, much greater separations.

I think as of today the chances of this massive space travel are virtually zero. However a few hundred years ago you'd have been burnt as a witch for playing snake on your 3330 Nokia. Very, very unlikely to my tiny mind now but who knows what the future brings?

Exactly

PS Why the negativity though?
It's the crazy distances. Imagine travelling your whole life on a spacecraft at full tilt, only to find out that you are still on the door step. Humans could have lived through several wars, and even become extinct long before you have even got a 1/10th of the way.

Y'all persist with a flat-earth perception of space.
How fast is the Universe expanding?
Faster than any craft could get up to speed to even begin to thnk about contemplating interstellar travel.

There must be another way...

We have lots to look forward to in the future in our lifetime. It’s great to imagine what could be possible in the next 1000 years and beyond. Those who cannot imagine or try to think are just stuck in a time warp

For sure. I love the Earth and it's a great place to live.

It certainly is. Let's hope that humans have solved their greed issues by then, otherwise we'll be going the same way as the Dodo.

Explain what being in a time warp is?

That's not what I said is it.

The distances won't change significantly. Four light years +/- another million miles, is not going to affect things as far as we are concerned.
Our nearest star (other than the sun) is heading in our direction. In a 1/3rd of the time you claim it will take to get there it will already be 1 light year closer.
