If it takes 70'000 years to travel four light years, (using the same maths) it will take 52'500 years to travel three light years. Then you have to bear in mind that the star will be moving away from the Earth for much of the latter two thirds of the journey.
This is what you said. No mention of anything manned.

Your maths is out by a factor of 9

The only one talking about using 1970s tech for the job is you.
The Apollo 13 mission remains the furthest distance man has travelled in space. Mars is still a pipe dream boyo. Apollo13 could be our defining moment as far as distance travelled is concerned.

no it really doesn’t.
Yes it does. In fact if we wait another 55'000 years it will be as far away as it is now. In order to optimise PC proximity to the Earth/Sun, we should have set out 55'000 years ago.

Bad luck boyo.

So, utterly irrelevant to the point (the feasibility of humans being interstellar - capable).
Correct.

MBK thinks that you should specifically state 'manned spacecraft' when discussing the feasibility of man ever reaching the nearest star or the speed of said craft.

Poor dribbling deluded old sod.

Mars already being planned for ten years time when the distance is closer ...Certainly no pipe dream boyo .

In the grand scheme of things, it is a stone's throw away (in both the figurative and literal senses: meteorites have been found on Earth that are believed to have been blasted from Mars by impacts).

Why then wait for it to get closer, if it is likely - according to some on here - to be a piece of pizz leaving our solar system in the near future anyway?

Mars is certainly achievable. But, who knows what will be achievable with NHI tech!!

All this talk of space ignores several crucial factors in why humans make terrible travellers...

What effects does our environment have on NHI? I guess those that are hiding crash retrievals know the answers!

The best time to set off for interstellar travel is later. As technology improves, we should get faster, and would probably overtake anyone who sets off sooner.
