In suspect you are old enough to be aware of that. My fathers view was a mom remains at home type and these days some may want some years of that - if they can afford t. My dad earned more than many so could afford it. Eventually mom did get a job. I know other families where that happened sooner.

Home Maker/Bread Winner is a terrible idea for many reasons. But for many the cost of child care is greater than the net take home of one worker in the family unit. Allowing a portion of child care to be tax deductible would probably create more income tax receipts and better economical productivity for the nation.

One of the things that struck me in earlier days was the use of school meals as a form of child care to allow a women to work as soon as possible. Also the age of kids before they got the front door key. Also kids getting themselves to and from schools over varying distances. The term latch key kids was sometimes used.

It should be seen as a good thing.
Lower birth rate = less people = less consumption = less pollution!
Also less houses = more farm land = less requirement on fertilisers.
