UK suffers highest death rate from coronavirus

Why is everything about this country always shoite? We don't appear to be able to do anything properly for ourselves. We excel at being rubbish, ie. most stupid, obese tattooed drunken people, record numbers of single parents, high violent crime, dumping ground for the world's dross paid for by a naive, cowed population through rip off taxes. Smallest, $h ittiest houses that cost telephone number prices. Congested, potholed polluted roads.

I do realise these aren't unique to us, but we do seem to excel at being crap in as many areas as humanly possible. Now the government is busy cobbling together a 'world class' track and trace app at the 11th hour, and our Kung Flu death rates are the highest. Even after a ruinous lockdown that the government can't even be arrsed to follow themselves. Are we surprised that our lying, cheating government has let a deadly plague get out of control?

I think you have answered your questions with those quotes. I happen to agree with you and I voted for the pile of dogs doo that now has the audacity to call themselves a government.

Perhaps you can give an example of what you mean by those vague words.

Which of these charts do you think is wrong?

What recent historic occurrences increased the death rate in some of those other countries, which might suggest a regression to the mean?
e.g. a heatwave in 2019 which was reported to kill 30k extra people in Spain alone
Where do all the old people live in a country?
What is the %age of old people by comparison?
Are our old people particularly healthy by comparison (obesity, diabetes etc)
Do the different Countries have similar reporting processes?

Only once you've baselined for that can you make comparisons.

Although Western Europe has much the same demographics and prosperity, there are small differences between them. some better, some worse, some different.

Yet the UK manages to have the worst performance on CV.

And you can't think of an excuse for it.

Just a resistance to comparing the UK to our similar neighbours

A resistance that our government only constructed the day they saw our nation looking bad.

Always happy to point out other countries when they were doing worse.

This is what Johnson calls "a success."

When lockdown is over, make a note to yourself to travel more. Differences significant.

There are charts of lockdown timing on here

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-52103747

While city living is common in all countries the spacing and probably travelling between them is likely to be entirely different in England in particular. Wales may be a bit different as it has a concentration on the south coast - another variable.

We are an Island - we should have found controlling this virus far easier but Bojo was too busy going on holidays or making a case for private exchange and taking it on the chin.

Talks the man who wantd free movement of people.. Your doing a John Motson...

Difficult to make comparisons with so many variable, USA has high death rate while UK has around 10 times the population density of the USA which makes the USA figure seem far worse .
You can prove just about anything with statistics , except he truth .

Are you Ellal?

Being a single parent is nothing to do with stupidity,rubbish,etc..Many many reasons people end up one parent families and a gross insult and generalisation to group them all together and run them down.

Difficult to make comparisons with so many variable

Except that you can compare Western European nations, which have many common standards, and approximate in age, prosperity and health.

When you do that, do you see a pattern emerge?

Have you been in London, Bristol, Edinburgh, Berlin, Stuttgart, Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid? Or the country towns, factories, offices, shops, homes, ports and agricultural areas in other Western European countries? Do you think they are so different that they cannot be compared?

But not density, a big factor in infection control .We have approx twice the density of Germany and nearly three times that of France , but then there’s a difference in rural a city density’s, again like comparing chalk with cheese .

Populations are not spread evenly across the country. Most people live in towns and cities.

Do you think London, Paris, Berlin are so "different" that they cannot be compared? Or Birmingham, Milan, Stuttgart?

No, they are not.

True. I mentioned the % of city living not differing that much ages ago. People seem to accept that at the time. However there will be a difference in spacing in the UK especially in England also very probably commuting as well. For instance B'ham population has been reckoned to at least double day time. Surrounding urban areas without enough jobs. Does it double - pass, it's just been mentioned.

The other factor as far as the UK is concerned is mention of time to lock down and variations on it. The bbc link gives some idea of that. Pity they didn't line up the 1st cases. This doesn't look to explain the differences. Not completely in all cases anyway. So why is it so different?

The various ratios differ over the UK as well as this shows. Not updated as number sources have changed

I know what I think. It's a combination of various factors.
