I've done me some googling on GSCE maths and found this page here

The answer, according to the GCSE revision, appears to be 4950-5050
Well no wonder GCSE are rubbish, cannot even get that simple question right
And where is the calculus? We had calculus at O-Level, have they got rid of calculus at GCSE level? What rubbish.
I think we need to know what the teacher said

No mate that's the answer for the upper and lower Bounds
the correct answer the posted question (regarding min and max lengths ) is
4950 and 5049
Edit missed your post above, you could have a point there
Maybe so - but the OP question appeared to be a real world one not some poxy rounding up / down mathematical principle . "A line and a rule guide many a fool" -- I rest my caseok 4845mm is shorter than 4900mm nige, and 5144mm is longer than 5100mm so......you're still fired.
