Vaillant boiler not firing properly since Hive install

Hi,

I recently had an engineer fit a Hive smart thermostat to my Vaillant boiler. Previously the boiler was working with the standard Vaillant thermostat, and the radiators were providing the desired levels of heat.

Since the Hive has been installed, the boiler does not reach the target temperature flow for the radiators (set to 70degC), it will only hit about 52 degress. It also won't fire properly when it is in service/chimney sweep mode. It max's out at 52ish and then drops. The water heating seems fine.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? Is there anything I can do to fault find?

Thank you

If the previous controls were Vaillant, I believe they run on 24v. If you use any other controls, they run on 240v. All you have to do in that case is remove the 24v jumper link in the boiler PCB. That’s what the problem was when I had my Vaillant EcoTEC 418 boiler installed.

Thanks for your help. It appears the 24V jumper link has already been removed so I am assuming it is not that. Any thoughts?

Looks like previous was Vaillant control. Check D.005, D.009 and D.071.
Thanks for this.

Correct, previously used Vaillant controls.

D.005 Heating target flow temp is 50degC
D.009 eBus controller target value is 50degC
D.071 Max. heating target flow temp 75degC
D.090 = 1.

@Stuckinarut Are the 50degC settings above causing me the trouble? Is the eBus causing the issue?

Yep - D.005 and D.009 aren’t adjustable, so this is why it won’t go above 50, even though D.071 is 75 degrees (this is generally the same temperature as the setting on the front.

You could perform a factory reset, which is D.096 changing from a 0 (no) to 1 (yes), however the previous receiver is what’s been left in the front, you could try removing this temporarily and see if the D005 and D009 change to 75. I say temporarily, because it exposes the pins, even though 24v, it not ideal. If it cures it, I recommend a blanking plate (it might have come with your boiler, so have a feel on top). If it doesn’t cure it, do the factory reset.
