I've always seen Israel as a tiny state besieged on all sides by angry arabs who now think the world owes them the entire planet for some reason.
I think the land masses is few percent for the Israelis and the rest arab.
Another view is that the Jews emigrated to Palestine, which was under British control for several decades, against the wishes of the predominantly Arab population, and then declared an independent state, against the wishes of the Arabs in Palestine and elsewhere. An equivalent would be if Poles eventually outnumbered the British and then declared an independent Polish republic, and started murdering Brits in some villages and towns to drive the British out. The fact that Jews have suffered pogroms throughout the world, including in Britain, might explain the desire for a homeland.
For what it is worth, I do support a free and secure Israel, just in case you play the anti-semite card, which of course you would not do.
