What’s going on in France?

approx 4x the population density of France
That's pretty meaningless.

People aren't dotted about equidistant between each other in fields.

The majority of French people live in cities.

Population density of Paris for example 20,700 per sq kilometre
Population density of London is 5800 per square kilometre

Was looking at Australia and NZ. They've kept it down to less than 1000 and 26 respectively which is an immense achievement

They both achieved great success with their elimination strategy as opposed to the UKs containment strategy.
The earlier and harder you lockdown the lower the peak.

But they are miles from the rest of the world with no airport hubs. I don't know if UK could have used elimination strategy.

Urban population France ~80%
Urban population UK ~83%

according to statista.

Well yes, whilst it is of course worthy of admiration, it's not sensible to compare say NZ with the UK.

No we don’t. We currently have a higher death total than France. That’s not the same as the death rate.
I think people are talking about total deaths per million of population, which is higher in the UK; not deaths per minute yesterday.

death rate is per 100,000 people

UK is higher than France

That's not a rate which is a consistent number over a recurring period. It is true to say the total number of deaths per 100,000 to date is higher in the UK than in France for instance. It is not true that the current rate of deaths (usually measured as a 7 day average) in the UK is higher than France. France is currently suffering a death rate of about 8 times the UK, not that there is anything to cheer or gloat about. Everyone of those deaths is someone's husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother etc.

Yes, we have had more total deaths than France since the pandemic began (assuming they are using the same counting methods as the U.K. - are they? ) but what I’d call the current 'death rate' is a lot less. Yesterday France had 308 deaths attributed to Covid and the U.K. had 51.

France deaths in last 7 days: 1992

UK deaths in last 7 days: 328

Hence my first post in this thread - "They are going into lockdown just as we are coming out of ours? Why? Is it because they were slow on the vaccine uptake? Will the rest of Europe, including us, follow?"
