Seting two mates up when hair was down to our shoulders told them we where all going to become skinheads.
They turned up that night to go out heads shaved, white fred perrrys and red braces, short jeans etc .
Rest of us sitting in pub pishing ourselves laughing.

Are kids still aloud to do discus ,javelin hammer and shot at school as they where always good for one good injury a year at school we had a couple with javelins into the legs

Looking back, everything about the 70s feels warmer and we tend to forget times back then were really hard.

For instance, inflation in July1975 peaked ar 26% (and we think we've got problems today).
Unemployment hit 938,000 up by a massive 238,000 since the start of the year.
A new word "stagflation" was coined to discribe the situation of rising inflation coupled with economic stagnation.
The government launched a "Buy British" campaign to try and stem the flow of imports and increase the chances of survival for British companies!

Some of this sounds a lot like 2011 eh?

Yeah, the 70,s was probably a hard time for our parents but when your a kid inflation and mortgage rates, taxes ect ect was all the boring stuff adults dealt with while we was playing in the park or something.....

The 70.s to me was a great era and after reading this the other night I was going through the tv channels and there was TOTP from the 70,s and number 1 was " save all your kisses for me" ....it was carp

Speaking of TOTP's, anyone remember Pans People? Always a different dance every week. They must be getting on a bit now though. More likely to appear on the antiques road show. ;) ;) ;)

My school did all sports, but one day a javelin was thrown and hit a lad collecting them. Teacher went to assist and pulled it out of his chest. That did the job. At inquest it was mentioned if it had been left and the ambulance had jsut cut it and left it in he may have survived.
Whats worse the playing feilds were next door to a hospital.

Makes no difference Alarm. ambulances are not based at hospitals. In the instance you mention, they'd have had to wait on the fire brigade getting there to cut the javelin off. Probably at least another 20 minutes till they got there, another 10 minutes cutting it off, another 10 mins getting the lad into the ambulance. Probably an hour after the incident before a surgeon would even get to see him.
Sad I know, but not everyone can be saved.

That's one crazy job isn't it? A Javelin collector? subtitled target.

Not into sport at school, but did javelin, we all thought we were doing well throwing the thing, 20-30 meters at best probably, then the teacher showed us how to do it, and nearly threw the thing out of the grounds.

Solatio leather shoes with the soles covered in metal segs

We called them Blakeys

That's another thing I miss about the 70s: great TV. Only 3 channels, but loads to watch. Saturday night and Xmas was when they really made an effort. Now, its 375 channels of $hite.

Bikes were another thing. My first was a Superdream. Still better than the 2-wheeled hairdryers the kids have to ride now.

That bloke has made a good living out of a stupid expression and an even more stupid voice....Same on 'Summer Wine'
I've only seen him in one episode of 'One Foot in the Grave' where he didn't use the same character.Good luck to him but he must be bored to death with the same old stuff.

It's called comedy. He was one part of a highly successful TV comedy programme, and several films.

He and the other cast members, including Reg Varney, Bob Grant, Michael Robbins, Anna Karen and Doris Hare managed all this without swearing and foul language.

His TV career was over 40 years, so he didn't do too badly with a 'stupid voice'. Perhaps you just didn't get it.

No, fortunately, I never tried it. They weighed a ton, and as mine was the 250N I would probably have struggled. Maybe with the 400.

Yes, a bit like Henry Ford, any colour you want as long as its red (mine) or blue. Maybe imagining, but did they do a silver later? It was just a nice, smooth, quiet 4 stroke. Quite well equipped for the time.

Now, wheelies on a mates Yam TS250. Different story.

Had the 400 and that could get on back wheel.
Trouble with the 250 was its exactly the same size as the 400 and gutless.
