Glass! Without which you'd have no screen to view your t'internet, no screen to put in your 'wheeled' car/aircraft/mobile phone, no vessel from which to purchase and consume your wine/beer, no thermionic valves, thermos flasks or windows on which to hang your venetian blinds.
beer and wine came in barrels and in stone / ceramic vessels long before glass was common and can easily be drunk from metal tankards....
to the best of my knowledge the screen on my laptop is plastic, not glass..
likewise the windows in aircraft are usually plastic aren't they?
ok, I'll give you that you need glass for a CRT, but other valves would have been just as happy with an opaque ceramic cover if they could make it air tight..
the best inverntion ever without doubt is wood...
without wood ( or more secifically the realisation that it could be used as such ), we would all still be living in caves or compacted earth dwellings..

Ok, plastic is the best invention ever. Glass was the inspiration behind it.
