What have you been doing today?

Made breakfast for my No'1 son, who popped round to do a small job for his 'Pops'.

Asked him why he's never discussed the death of my grandchild with me & got to hear an answer I really didn't want to hear.
Sorry to hear this. No one should out-live their children (or grandchildren).

Sorry to hear that too Dork. Mrs Motties little brother and his wife lost their child at two years old after living the last 12 of those 18 months in the Royal London. His wife literally lived up there for those 18 months. It was absolutely heartbreaking, they never got over it and the marriage eventually broke up. They were divorced only last month. Their daughter would have been 19 years old by now. I hope your son and his partner coped better than they did.

Weekly food shop this morning while Mrs Mottie was out walking the dog, a haircut and then we met some friends in a local pub/restaurant for lunch. We were talking about when we last met which was just over a month ago at our daughters wedding. We left just before them and they were telling us how they couldn't get an Uber back to their hotel as my mate couldn't remember his password for the app, threw his phone against a wall and smashed it! They walked for about half an hour trying to get a taxi but at gone 1.00am in the backstreets of North London, they couldn't get one. His wife tried to load the Uber app on her phone but didn't know her mobile number and my mate couldn't tell her because he had smashed his phone. In the end they found themselves back at the wedding reception venue just before 2.00am. Luckily my daughter and some of her friends were still there and she ordered them an Uber on her phone. I was laughing so much I had a nosebleed and spent 10 minutes in the bogs mopping up! Anyway, we got home, stuffed to the gills, skipped dinner but I'm bloody starving now. Cheese and biscuits should see me to bedtime.

Almost finished planting out at the allotment. So far I have 4 types of spuds, carrots, coloured carrots, parsnips, onions, chives, garlic, leek, radish, lettuce, horseradish, apples, rhubarb, dwarf and climbing French beans, runner beans, Brussels, cauliflower, cabbage, green cabbage, asparagus, sweetcorn, peas, 3 types of tomatoes, giant pumpkin, beetroot, artichoke, courgettes and assorted herbs. Still to go out are cucumbers and butternut squash. Mrs Mottie has planted sweet peas, gladioli, Dahlia's and assorted bee attracting wild flowers. Going to be a bumper year!

As most of my crops are planted out now, I’m starting to tidy the plot up. Borders, paths etc. Went over around 10.00 this morning but gave up just after 12.00 - I was bloody melting. Went home, had a quick shower, lunch and then settled down to watch F1 and the football. Went back over the allotment after tea. When I arrived it was empty but I could hear a right racket coming from the plastic cloche on the next plot. A wood pigeon had got in to eat their plants and couldn’t get out. Anyway, I got the damn thing out, gave it a right talking to and set it free. I think it got the message.

What one is the pigeon?

Gave a police officer a ticket for parking in one of the disabled bays at college.
He'd popped in to speak to two of his colleagues who were stamping and logging students bikes in a theft prevention scheme. Parked in a disabled bay right by the front door so reception radioed me to let me know. I have these blue tickets printed to put on any cars that park there without displaying a genuine Blue Badge so for a bit of fun, (and partially serious), I was sticking one under his windscreen wiper when he walked back out. Asked me what I was doing to a police vehicle so I explained, "Even though we are a private property we try to show the students that we must obey the laws of the road. To this end I always place these slips on cars not displaying an official Blue badge when they park in one of the bays." He then trotted the excuse he was only popping in for a minute so I said, "I thought someone like you would come up with something better than that!" He took my ticket in the fun way it was meant and promised not to do it again. :ROFLMAO:

Over the allotment this afternoon and I’ve got some artichokes. Today I noticed I had an infestation of black fly. I organically removed them by using my high pressure dog washer. :giggle:

Soapy water would have been better. It leaves a thin film which the bugs don't like. Can also cause them to get stuck there if they land afterwards and then along come the ladybirds, wasps etc and gobble them up.

Just watched a Sparrowhawk devour what may have been a young Pigeon on the fence, full 20 mins of nature in the raw.

Been over the allotment today, no surprise there. Filled the car up with rubbish from the plot including a few butchered pallets and some unused water pipe and run it down the dump or, as it’s known these days, the recycling centre. On the way back, I called in to the stables and filled about a dozen plastic sacks with well rotted horse manure. Dropped them off at the allotment and I’ll deal with them tomorrow but……one of the bags must've had a hole in it because I had a nice puddle of 'juice' in the boot. Luckily it stayed on the rubber mat and didn’t seep into the boot carpet or the back of the seat. Managed to get the mat out without spilling any and washed it off with the watering can. Could’ve been nasty!

Had to drive to conny's part of the world to collect 75 concrete coursing bricks from Travis as they were the nearest merchant to have them in stock. 3 hour round trip. Building materials shortage seems to be getting worse.

A brunch out at our local eatery Juniper. Some tidying up, then dinner with PiLs, coincidentally at a pub called Juniper Farm, dropping youngest and two mates off at Lymm RUFC for training first.

Interesting but tasty dinner. Chickpea Tikka pie with onion bhaji mash (delicious!) and a tasty hot curry sauce as a stand-in for gravy. Very nice.

Back to Lymm to pick up the lads, then on to the awards night at the lad's rugby club.

His team (U17s) won the Cheshire Cup again!

Well, I was due to deal with them yesterday but had to go up the workshop as the alarm had gone off. I think it was just a spider or something climbing over the sensors. Anyway, went over the allotment today to find that some bastard had pinched six of my bags of premium horse shît! I had a good scout around and couldn’t see any sign of it on any of the other plots. We've had some pretty big stuff go missing recently - some paving slabs and some bags of compost. The allotment has a decent fence and lockable gates as well as cctv covering the entrance and these items are of considerably low value to be hefted over the fence and carried across a river so I suspect someone who lives in one of the houses that go along one side of the allotment is helping themselves. May have to set a trap one day.

Off out tonight to see Top Gun Maverick.
