What have you been doing today?

Had a blissful day in the Yorkshire villages of Kettlewell and Starbotton, and walking around the River Skirfare. So beautiful.

Up at 6.00am to go to Needham Lakes car boot sale where we picked up the two citrus, (lemon and lime), trees the guy didn't have last week. £30 each and looking very healthy and some bedding plants. Also picked up David Jason autobiography for 25p hardback edition, (who's title I can't remember at the moment because the book is still in my car!), and a brand new Amtech made Dremel kit with 102 various attachments. Got the 'drill' as well as the attachments but I have a proper dremel if it's no good. She bought her for her husband last week who apparently told her her never uses anything like that so she stuck on her table for £10 Not one to miss a bargain I grabbed it. Then we went along to the Weird World of Wood in Haughley a few miles away where we spent another couple of hours watching people create things the old fashioned way. a bloke in one area and a woman in another both using the old style treadle lathes to turn wood. It was fascinating to watch how they used what looked like standard chisels to create things instead of the usual bowl gouges and skew chisels etc The prices for most things was silly expensive, (a large plank of alder with some metal frames at the end to turn it into a garden sofa for £2,500 plus delivery from one seller or £125 for an untreated 18" high x 10" diameter mushroom from another seller). Came home for a dip in the tub and decided to take a trip to Felixstow for fish and chips on the beach. Spent £4 in the arcades shoving 2p pieces down a slot and won 3 Harry Potter themed key rings, 2 small rubber dinosaurs, a small frisbee and 2 'mood crushers', (like a fluffy gonk with a smiley face on one side and a sad face on the other), which you can turn inside out to show how you feel. Granddaughter was very pleased with her gifts. Finally come home after being out for 14 hours to find Liverpool had won the FA cup. So, pretty good day in all.

Today I was very pleased to discover that two days to the year, some the blue tits are building another nest in my Wifi camera bird box. They've gotten farther with the nest building than they did last year when they were disturbed by a starling trying to get into the box. Looks like I might actually have some chicks this year. I will give full updates if they do in this thread.

This afternoon we went over to our daughter and son-in-law who are just back from their honeymooon and we all went out for Sunday lunch in a local pub. We were joined afterwards by our son-in-laws parents for drinks. In all, a very nice day.

Was on the phone today to the bank - I was sending a payment and I had a text message on phone saying I would be getting a call from the fraud protection team. The call came and I answered a few silly questions about scam calls etc, remarking that "I wasn't that stupid" then they said they were sending me a one time text message with a code. I went into the lounge to get my mobile, it wasn't there. Looked in the kitchen, not there. I told the bloke to send it anyway and I'd hear the 'ping'. He said he'd already sent it. I didn't hear anything so I asked him to send it again. He then said "it's not the phone you are talking on, is it?". Feck me, it was!

Are they sloppy eaters?
Nah. But they had already been out with them for dinner since they came back from honeymoon as they live over that way. It was our turn. Wait till you get son/daughter in laws and you'll understand what it's like to share your kids with another family. Always a juggle at Christmas because all parents want the kids over. Worse when you have grandkids and your daughter-in-law has a dad as well as a step dad then they have to split themselves three ways at those times.

Not as much as I've been pumping your quiz thread!

It's not mine.... I wish it was as its so successful. That Bodd must have been an amazing fella...... Will you tell me about him I'd love to know more.

My day started with the excitement of seeing my first egg in my birdbox. A quick dash to work to do my weekly stint and then went and picked up a free water butt from a mate. Back home, lunch then a little nap. Woke up, had my tea and then went over the allotment for some watering. Needn't have bothered because it started raining as I came away! Took the dog for an evening walk as it was too hot for her in the daytime. Got back, checked the birdbox and there's a sleepover going on in there. More eggs in the morning I hope.

You should have enough for an omelette by the weekend.:)

Today, I trimmed my beard and hair ready for summer!

Made breakfast for my No'1 son, who popped round to do a small job for his 'Pops'.

Asked him why he's never discussed the death of my grandchild with me & got to hear an answer I really didn't want to hear.

Woke up to find another egg in the blue tit birdbox.

Did a bit of animal rescue on our dog walk this morning. A calf had got through one of the kissing gates in the field because some idiot had not looped the swing gate after going through it and its mum was a bit agitated. We took the long route (mother was giving us evils) and pushed the calf in, swung the gate across to let it out. Didn't get as much as a thank you from the mum - the original ungrateful cow!

Did a bit of upholstery indoors to my sofa. Basically unbolted and swapped the cushions round as one had gone a bit flat up the end that I sit on.

Went out round my mums on my leccy bike to replace a few light bulbs. Came home via some footpaths and a cemetery.

Popped over the allotment after tea, did some weeding, earthed up my spuds, planted some more pea plants and generally chucked water everywhere.

Came home, checked the birdbox and mum is settled down for the night. More eggs tomorrow no doubt.
