What have you been doing today?

Bloody freezing fog this morning. Had to walk the dog on my own as it sets Mrs Motties asthma off when she goes out in it. It’s got even colder and foggier since I got home. Hope it clears up a bit later - we are going out with the kids and grandkid to a Christmas light show over Hylands park tonight.

Mrs filly looked out the window an hour ago and saw an elderly neighbour sitting in the middle of the road. We're on a hill and when it rains water seeps up though the tarmac in a few areas. Last night there was a thaw and then rain, overnight it's frozen so our road is a sheet of ice. Took me five minutes to get me socks on and do me trousers up so by the time we got to the old boy he's managed to shuffle to the pavement but was still on his @RSE and must have been down for ten minutes at least, I just about managed to get him to his feet and we helped him to his door.

Anyway, got to pop down to Toolstation so will shortly be firing up the Disco and try out the hill descent mode on that ice, it won't be a problem for that bad boy, might even deploy the electric towbar in case anyone slides into the back of me.

Not today but yesterday, I replaced the Tumble dryer hose that was ripped.

It had a new back bearing fitted on the drum as it got mega squeaky.

Also bought a 4 cartridge pack of timer for the laser printer.

Being Brother, the OEM ones are mortgage-inducing, but this one is more reasonable.
55 squid for a single black brother cart.

These were much cheaper, although at 40 squid, it was a tenner more than the last lot I bought.

I have a washing machine out in the yard at work that I use for washing the overalls and hand wiping rags. The drain hose has long since disintegrated so when it pumps out, it just floods out from underneath somewhere. It’s 12 years old and has lived outside under a tarpaulin for the last 8 years, I’m surprised it’s not shorted out.

Is the circuit it's connected to protected by RCD or RCBO?
Yes, but it’s never popped anything so I assume the drained water is not reaching anything electrical inside the machine. I might treat it to a new drain hose for Christmas!

Just popped over the allotment to check on things - my neighbour is over there laying a patio in front of his shed - in this weather! My sprouts are frozen solid but my onions and garlic are withstanding the cold weather. Never realised how many spiders webs were over there - the frost has shown them up and they are everywhere.

Watching Repair Shop the other day, Mrs CB said why don't you fix your carriage clock, its a H Samuel battery operated which was given to me when I left my first job in 1982, it kept great time, never lost a minute.

Anyway the battery terminal snapped off a few years ago so was confined to my cupboard, had look on Amazon and a new movement will be about £10, so stripped it down this afternoon, after watching a video, just been out to the van for some pliers and its frozen solid, cannot open side or rear doors, try again tomorrow.

5 jobs to day

3 frozen condensate pipes

Combi with no hot water

And a pump change plus new valves who ever dreamt up ball o fix
Pump valves should be stood up against the nearest wall an **o*

Imo

For some reason this sentence is making me smile :)

I'm sometimes surprised to see folk (of all ages) out in icy/snowy weather with their year round footwear on. Maybe not as much of an issue when you're younger (let's slide ... yipee!!!) but when you're older it's a different story.
