Called the doc, 2 things
1) they're still hassling me about an appt I postponed ( physio)
"no you didn't" You're due to come. Those appointments are hard to get, you know."
>>"I changed it"
"NO YOU DID NOT"
>>"There's another appointment in a couple of days, yes?"
"um, oh yes",
"I'll cancel it for you then"
>>"Make sure you cancel the right one, these appointments are expensive, you know"..

and
2) Checking blood tests
"Anti body is in red"
>>" what anti body "
""nucular"
>>" you mean anti nuclear antibody? What's the level?" ( I only know it should be low)
"It says 11620"
>>"eh?"
"Oh, the second one is two dots" (???!!??)
>>"sorry?"
"You'll have to ask the doctor"
>>"can you just give me the number again?"
" one, two dots, six, two , oh" (she meant 1:620)
>>"thanks".

Then she said "You are taking the xxx tablets aren't you, those will be important?"
>>"I'm taking lots of tablets.....?"
"No, the ones we sent the pharmacy a prescription for, for XXX, then you'll have to have another blood test".
>>"How would I know you'd sent anything anywhere?"
"Oh I don't know".
.

FFS. Clappy clappy well done crappy NHS.

(1:620 means summat's wrong, I looked it up. No idea what though.)

Just put the bins out and I saw that yesterday the drain contractors had got under the fence and a little way through next doors patio. The pitch fibre drain pipe is encased in cement so its quite a b'stard to get up. Some sections had collapsed inwards and had the shape of a figure of 8. I thought they would expose the drain pipe all the way to the manhole and then change it in one go. Not so. They are putting it in piece by piece, filling in as they go, leaving a ditch at the open end of the new clay pipe for the waste and effluent to flow into overnight which they then suck out in the morning before carrying on with the next sections. With 5 people next door plus our waste, there’s quite a mess in there this morning. Our number twos are still unnoticeable as we are using the macerator. Pongs a bit!

Do these people that work with drains build up a natural immunity to all the nasties they are working with or do they have regular injections/medicines to protect them?

I seem to recall one contractor telling me they have hepatitis jabs but, after that,, I don't remember him mentioning anything else.

I read somewhere that plumbers and those who regularly deal with drainage, build up natural immunity in time.

Probably a degree of "natural selection", in that if you keep getting ill (even too ill to work), you'll jack it in and find another living.

Like someone with poor balance not sticking with a high-wire act career for long.....

One of many, working with the public being another hanging over their shoulder.

I used to work for a contractor for the water board, they insisted anyone working around WWTWs had a hepatitis jab

A drain bloke (sorry, effluent system service technician) once told me that if he made the mistake of biting his finger nails without scubbing his hands properly after work he could taste beef Monster Munch. Except it wasn't actually beef Monster Munch.
