What have you been doing today?

Yesterday....

A few days ago, I emailed Iceland, to get full details of their free delivery, and 10% discount Tuesday offer for the over 60's. I basically wanted to know if the 10% off, could be combined with free delivery, if we shopped in store. Their reply - yes it could, just spend £40 before the 10% discount, and they would deliver for free, if we shop in store.

So yesterday, off we toddle on the bus, to Iceland at our local town, an 40 to 60 minute journey, dependent on buses, so didn't really be wanting to risk frozen food defrosting on the journey home. Never done any of this before, and so - Walked in, spoke to an assistant just to confirm they did deliver to where we lived, yes they did, but their driver was off today, so would not be able to deliver today, but shop away, and they would put it aside for delivery tomorrow (today).

We did a massive bulk shop, of frozen food, got to the tills, showed driving licence and explained we wanted delivery, but knew that would not be today, tomorrow would do fine, or anytime they chose. Sorry, who did you speak to, we cannot put your shopping to one side for delivery and there is no driver available to deliver today. The choice offered was to have them restock everything, or struggle home with it all and take the risk of it defrosting on the way home, on the bus. We chose the latter, and luckily managed it before it defrosted.

Absolutely fuming, what a total shambles. I've emailed Iceland's head office, for an explanation.

Spent a while tracing an unknown direct debit from our account.

The amount was going out under the name Clubwise.

I rang our bank and she found out the payment was via Clubwise to a company called (I have forgotten the letters) ABCD.

This did not ring any bells for either of us, so I spent a while using the services of Mr Google.

Eventually, I discovered that Clubwise is a payment system used by gyms.

Then I remembered that we had taken over payments for our youngest son as an incentive for him to revise well for his A levels. I couldn't remember, but I thought we had stopped making payments.

So before cancelling the direct debit, I rang the gym this morning.

Turns out we can't just stop the DD, otherwise he will be chased for non payment. And there's a 30 day cancellation, so we'll have to pay another s*dding payment before we're free....

What annoys me somewhat is that payments going out under a name that isn't the company you're paying for your goods or services mean it's not at all obvious at a glance who you are paying.

So be warned folks. Amnesia is very expensive!

Next moan...

Clubcard.

My middle son asked me what my Clubcard number was.

I told him and he said that was his number. He showed me on his account that he had my account number.

Yet my Clubcard has my name on it and the same account number that he has.

I looked on my Clubcard account and there were 3 other cards on the system, one of which was Mrs Secure's.

I have contacted Tesco by WhatsApp as the woman on the phone did not believe that I had a Clubcard with my lady's Clubcard number on but my name.
They will get back to me when they have investigated it.

My name was also on his account (until he changed it last night), but the email and mobile on his account was his.

What a right royal forkup!

Not much so far...so good to wake up on this new mattress, though. Laying on that old mattress was like the rack compared to the quilted comfort of a Teqsli - given time to work in a sleeping groove and it's going to smooth out knots in my old bones. Did something i hadn't done for years this morning - breakfast in bed: luxury!

There's big money to be made in talking up the quality build, special properties, magic of mattresses. My present one cost £60 a couple or so years ago, sold as a blue cool, memory foam, with metal springs. I have since tracked it down to large companies selling the very same (not similar, the same one) mattress for close to £400.

How's it been - absolutely fine.

All i know is the quality swaddled me in comfort - two year warranty, twelve year guarantee. The price you pay for a bad mattress is much higher than any cost to buying a new one.

Reading this reminded me to turn our mattress this morning before I made the bed. It weighs a ton and really is a two man job - I need a shower now - I’m bathed in sweat!

Sitting in the Audi dealers waiting to buy an oil filter. Been here 18 mins already. The suited and booted parts salesman came out to take orders but could only do one thing at a time. The two blokes in front of me are waiting for a number plate. He’s on his second coffee. I’ve just had a coffee and half a dozen biscuits. Whatever happened to the good old greasy parts counter?

Still, you can’t beat quality parts from Germany. Oh, made in Turkey.

A job made redundant with this new mattress: it can only lay one way as the gel-foam memory spongey stuff has to align in order. Now it's stuck for good. It might get a hoovering once in a while but that's about it. I'll take it to the tip this weekend when a friends van is free and it may be a bit of a squeeze, so fingers crossed it fits, otherwise it's a long way to the river from here.

Blood test this morning, 8.00 at my local hospital. I got there at 7.55 and was on my way home by 7.58. At least they have sorted the system out. Previously, you had to take a ticket and wait for your number to come up. Very disheartening when you take ticket number 386 and they are only on number 204 and the waiting area is like a bloody airport.

Mrs Mercury's Covid jab yesterday, in and out in 5mins, very efficient, then told me to get mine done there and then (as I'm my wifes Carer) again, out within 5mins, couldn't be arsed to hang around for the obligatory 15mins to make sure I wouldn't faint though. Arms a bit achy today.
