What have you been doing today?

Andy, was the Brummie plate on the car when you bought it a private one?

In work now fitting a set of tyres to the A3. They're 40 profile XL’s so extra stiff sidewalls - took two tyre levers and plenty of lube to get them on the rim. Had to pump them up to nearly 65psi to get them to seat too and when they did, they did it with a fair old ‘pop’! Bloody hard work on my old tyre machine doing these profile tyres without an assist arm. Two done, two to go.

Looks like I still had a couple of miles to go on the n/s/r.

Not so on the o/s/r! Had more than enough mileage out of that one. How they got that low without me noticing, I'll never know. Pure laziness on my part.

Had over 4mm left on the fronts but they were different makes so I didn’t want to end up with 3 makes of tyre on the car.
Reminds me of the tyres on the boys' Mitsubishi Space Star when we got it.

Really low tread, they were all Landsail tyres but different types and one was the wrong size. I booked a fitting for 5 Bridgestone WeatherControl A005s.

Perhaps it's all in the mind, but they felt grippier on the way home both to me and the eldest. So happy and relieved when they were changed.

Another 1000m openwater swim.

After all of the rain since Wednesday, I was expecting it to be bloody chilly, so wasn't looking forward to it today.

As it happened, I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful clear sky while having a cuppa afterwards didn't hurt either (y)

Not sure I get the connection to Brum, but the BW plate must have been the previous owners private plate as the DT reg is the one that was originally issued to the car and what I got when I reapplied for the V5.

The previous owner lived in Sheffield, which I found out by setting the sat nav to take me home when I first got it. Call me Columbo :D

Well they definitely weren't grippier at first. Wheel spinning when pulling away sharpish, ABS kicking in when braking hard and I swear I felt the arse slide out on the first roundabout I went round. Mind you, that’s quite normal on new tyres until they have scrubbed the mould release lubricant off of them. They were perfectly fine by the time I got home 12 miles away. Did seem quieter though.

Our boiler is fitted in the loft. We have a CO alarm up there. Yesterday when I was up the workshop, Mrs Mottie phoned me to tell me the alarm in the loft was going off. She was going out so I told her to turn the gas off at the main. She did this and took the alarm out of the loft (which she said stopped making a noise when she brought it down from the loft). When I came home I saw it wasn’t the CO alarm, but an old smoke alarm I had fitted up there when I fitted new ones in the hall and upstairs landing a few years ago. Panic over, I threw that in the bin and turned the gas back on. This morning at 4.15 we were woken by an alarm going off. I jumped out of bed and yep, the bloody smoke alarm I’d chucked in the bin was screaming its head off. Battery out and back to bed!

Went out for an Indian meal last night with Mrs Mottie. Tried somewhere different in Hornchurch that we'd never been to before. Went to this place. Really nice food, a bit different from your normal Indian restaurant. Three things I’ve NEVER seen in an Indian restaurant: Two different Indian families were eating there, we were welcomed and served by an Indian woman and they also had two young white girls and one young white boy working there.

You mustn't go to many Indian restaurants then. Lol

White boy? How vulgar. Stop being a self hater!
