What have you been doing today?

I made a spicy butternut squash soup with my own butternut squash, onion, garlic and red chilli. Lovely with a splash of crème fraîche.

Top tip: When you are clearing up after making this and you brush chilli seeds from the chopping board into the bin, whatever you do, for fùcks sake don't give your nuts a scratch before washing your hands.

Taking the MH to a dealer for a trade in valuation tomorrow, spent two days cleaning it inside and out, could have grown tatties on the roof

I'm always rubbing my eyes with spicy fingers and that hurts rather a lot.

Not today, but....

A chain pubs carvery opened locally, a few years ago, so I gave it a try several times, and I was always disappointed by the quality of the cooking. Roast spuds, overdone, food left under the lights too long and dried out it seemed, even when they had just begun serving.

We got a 30% off leaflet through the door, mid-week, so we decided to give them another chance on Friday lunch. The place was busy, not many it seemed eating, but the guy serving at the carvery was doing his best to eke out the meagre turkey breast, and the beef joint, no bigger than we would have at home. Who ever had cooked the mashed potatoes, hadn't been watching them, because they were over-boiled and were just a puddle, in the dish, roast spuds dry, hard, and over done, carrots were near raw, sprouts under cooked. The one thing they had managed to get right, were the Yorkie Puds.

Later the same day, I went on their FB site, mentioned how disappointed I had been and that I had posted on FB at the time, soon after they had opened, plus why I had originally stopped going. This time, I mentioned all the issues above. Their page was plastered with glowing reviews, apart from my own. The manager had followed it up with a 'sorry you were disappointed'.

Someone else had added a blatant bitcoin add, plus 5 stars - to which the manager had replied, 'Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit.

Obviously they do not read, or take note of what feedback is posted, or attempt to improve anything. Travel a few miles to the next centre, where there is another pub chain's carvery, and I have never been even slightly let down by their offerings, I have given them glowing and honest FB reviews, plus it is a pound or two cheaper.

1. You've just said all bar your feedback was fine, so there's nothing for them to take note of, is there?
2. Despite your claim that it's repeatedly crap, you keep going back :D
Even though there's a cheaper and better one, a few miles further down the road.

Unless I've misunderstood?

Are you on something?

Does this sound fine?

are you sure you are not on something?

Why do you keep prattling on about this?

I've never been there, wherever it is.
So all anyone else has to go on is:

Everyone says it's great.
Everyone, that is, except you.

You've said that all bar your review was 5 star.

Anyway, I hope your lunch there today is top-notch ;)

Why do you keep prattling on about this?

Because you do give me the impression, that you are on something. I do question, why you feel the need to comment, at all, seeing as you have added nothing positive to the discussion?

Maybe the expectations of other reviewers, are so much lower than my own? Maybe the reviewers are freinds of the manager.

When I go out for a meal, I at least expect it to be on par with what I would expect at home.

You do realise a buffet that has to cater for a potentially unknown number of customers, that could turn up all at the same time or hours apart, and could take varying amounts of any particular element of the meal (meat, veg, etc).

Nevertheless you expect they should produce the same quality as you get at home when you cook, dish up and eat your food at the prime point when it’s planned to be served at the same time?

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for this meal?

It's called an alternative perspective.

You remind me of my f-i-l who, after ten minutes of various people saying how bad a local carvery was, said he didn't mind it, coz it was the cheapest around......

If you want someone to agree with you regardless, try FB.
