What have you been doing today?

Congratulations encore, Mott!
Was this at your house?

We had all our boys at home. In one case we were in the room they were born when somebody asked where one of them was born and was surprised when we pointed to a patch of carpet near the patio door and said "There!"

Well done to Mum and babe; it's not an easy undertaking!

Thanks. No, it was at their house. She had gone to hospital earlier but they said 'nowhere near' yet. Gave her the option of staying or going home. Last time she was in labour for 3 days so went home. Mrs Mottie left them and brought our grandson back with her but within an hour she went into labour, couldn’t even make it to the car so they went back inside and the head popped out. My son had to support the baby's head until paramedics arrived - luckily three turned up within about 4 minutes and the baby came out within 10 seconds of them taking over! He was royally pooping himself - this morning he's joking that he thinks he has PTSD.

We were asked to bring our carpet cleaner down and they weren't joking!

I went for a walk with the dog and, her ball went through that fence. As I was reaching through to get it back, I got a belter of a shock that threw me onto the path. I knew it was an electric fence and I had "tested" it a couple of times by quickly swiping my hand across it to see if it was on.
Three young lads came to see if I was ok, which I was but I got a fright.
I went into the site office, just to say that it might be a good idea if they put some more signs up because, what if that was a child, or a mother holding an infant on the fence to see the horses.
All they were interested in was, "you can't come in here with the dog" nobody asked me if I was ok, and one of them actually turned around and walked away to talk with a colleague as I was talking to her. The other one could only say "there's a sign".
I intend to take it further, not for my benefit but, I wouldn't like it to happen to anybody else. It isn't well signed, there is only one small sign every 50 yards, they are all worn and none of them are at eye level.

You could put a sign every five yards, and most would not see it......

Perhaps a second fence, to keep people away from the first........ ;)

They are not 'on' all the time, they fire intermittently. They are always something to be aware of, when out walking in the countryside, where there is stock. Just watch for wires, supported on insulator.

When we go on a shoot, there’s a particular field where one of the farmers (on the shoot) has a pen that he rears partridges in. It has a low electric fence around it to deter foxes. Inevitably one or more of the dogs gets too interested in the birds in the pen and then we hear a yelp and know they have got too close.

Bit of an easy day today as I’m waiting on items to finish the kitchen off. Went over the allotment to check on the greenhouse plants, planted some of my spare tomato plants up in grow bags and left them in the greenhouse, harvested some more asparagus.

Sealed the raw edges on my sink unit after butchering it to fit the under counter sink, fitted a few more supporting battens on the walls and under the new window to support the worktop when it arrives and marked out and fitted the extractor hood chimney, cutting a section out of the ceiling coving to slot it in to. I just have to make good on a slice of coving that I cut from one side and moved to the other as the chimney was in a slightly different position to the previous one. Once the ceiling is painted I can remove the protective film.

Where and how does it vent? Does it go straight out through that wall?

Can’t really do much more on the kitchen as I’m waiting for a wall unit to be replaced (they sent the wrong one) and the quartz worktops to be fitted. When that’s done, I’ll at least be able to fit and use the induction hob. Bought some paint and may give the ceiling a coat of paint tomorrow.

Went and done a bit over the allotment while I had the time. Temperatures were sky high in the greenhouse so left the door open for tonight- it has an auto opening roof vent but air needs to get in to circulate.

Lifted up the paving slabs for one of my paths, de-weeded it, relaid them and surrounded them with wood chippings. So hot over there, I had to go topless. Still, the ladies enjoyed it, it was a treat for them but I’ll be as red as a beetroot later. Hopefully I’ll bronze off overnight.

Been cycling along the Tarka trail from Fremington Quay to Great Torrington and back. View while stopping for sarnies. loads of cycle hire places Barnstaple, Instow and Torrington so if you are down this way a great day out. The path is tarmacked and any inclines are slight given its an old railway line. Plenty of electric bikes to hire if you don't want to peddle to much.

Just about to go out the door and the worktop fitters turned up. Two minutes later and they’d have missed me. Their boss forgot to phone me! Then Magnet phoned up - they had my missing cabinet. It’s all systems go now.

I haven’t mentioned it but I assume they are going to drill the tap hole on site. Fingers crossed!
