I dismantled one to fix it rather than break the paint seal to replace it. The cord had broken inside the mechanism. Took a while with lots of little bits of spring and plastic to fully understand and ponder, but much less of a hard click once fiddled with.aye but the unit was 'clicky', making you pull the cord harder than necessary...which is why the cord snapped, i guess. Better out than in.
