What have you bought today?

We're with Vodafone. More than enough speed for us.

Our previous Vodafone package was less than half that speed and even that was fast enough to watch up to 4K films on the firestick. We just upgraded to full fibre under a new contract and it was a couple of quid cheaper. We can watch anything on any channel. £25 a month. (y)
Should prob have mentioned, the price I quoted is for broadband, tv and landline. I'm confident I could get a cheaper bundle, however I'm not returning to copper for my Internet so Virgin it is.

Yeah, ours is for broadband and landline although we only ever use our mobiles to phone out on. TV - normal terrestrial channels but a firestick for films, live sport and non-terrestrial channels. I pay roughly a fiver a month in total for a VPN and 'premium' connections on the firestick.

Are Virgin the only full fibre broadband suppliers where you are?

Yep. BT fibre will no doubt be coming at some point, no dates as yet though.

tbh I've been with them since the Telewest days across three properties and very little issues, so I have no real desire to leave them. However that might change if I ever have more than one option in my current property ;)

?

Emmm, better download/upload speeds.

I could opt for BT's copper service, up to 21Mbps down / 1Mbps up. Or remain with my current service, up to 350Mbps down / 25Mbps up.

Whilst I'm not a gamer or heavy broadband user in terms of downloading etc, I WFH and prefer a service with some oomph ;)
The reason I asked was, I'm with Plusnet, and have been for about twenty years. I have one of their cheaper packages, and it does everything I want of it, i.e. internet, firestick, streaming etc. I never get the little thing going round in circles and, I can't imagine what benefit a bells and whistles package would give me.

What speeds do you have?

I have 125Mbps download and 20Mbps upload, which I think is the minimum with Virgin fibre. It's nice to have things download really quickly! Also, uploading to the Cloud is very decent.

I don't have a bells and whistles package. If you think in terms of low, medium and high, my package with Virgin is medium broadband, tv and landline.

Could I opt for their low services and save more? No doubt. But I don't want to ;)

On my way home from the station, I couldn’t help popping in to our local department store - they always have good sales on. I got a couple of shirts at bargain prices. Furthermore they were giving an extra 20% off of the sale price at the till plus 10x loyalty points. I got the Gant shirt for £38 and the CK Tee shirt for £18 so I paid £56 in total plus I got £5.60 in points added onto my loyalty card so in total, £50 all bar a few pence for the pair. A bargain! Might go up there again tomorrow for another looksie. :)

Yep, I have recently left them, they were rock solid, just becoming a little expensive for a limited speed copper connection and much more expensive had I opted for fibre. I'm now on fibre, faster and cheaper than the Plusnet copper.

The point I'm making is, I pay £24/month, and I my speed might be "slow", but it does everything I need it to do. I could pay double, or more but, it would be of no use to me. And, I'm not interested in having the bragging rights to be able to say, I've got super duper, uber turbo charged broadband speeds.

I agree, and didn't necessarily need faster - I had 40Mbs with Plusnet copper, but I was offered 150Mbs fibre, and CHEAPER. I really didn't need faster, but I knew I would be forced to swap to fibre, which would have been much more expensive with Plusnet, within a few months - so my best choice all round, was to jump, before I was pushed.

Pretty much the same situation for me. Full fibre 150mbps for less than I was paying for 67mbps.
