What have you bought today?

A first for me, a Cowley ring for a cone drive potters wheel, one of my customers thought the motor was running slow, found a specialist on line and he recognised the unit from photos, the beauty of t'internet

I would like to collect auto biographies, old books or old telescopes, scientific instruments etc
Im just starting to clear some stuff from my Dads house -he has some books of poetry that were published as early as 1868. One book was a birthday present from his wife, dated 1946.

he also has a big collection of vinyl LPs from the 1960s -all Opera and quite a few on original Decca labels. Sadly although I have a top end turntable, its in the loft and I dont have the room to set it up really....and I rarely listen to opera.

I do find old stuff fascinating though

Grr. I might have wasted some money today. Wife’s birthday coming up in two weeks. I’d already bought her something that she has been saying she liked for years. - a mirror illusion gate. I’ve already fitted it up and she loves it but that’s way too early now and I wanted something for her to open on the day. Anyway, she's got a wardrobe half full of handbags but she only said the other week that she hasn’t got a 'summer' handbag. (WTF?). Anyway, I took it she meant something pastel coloured. I’ve just popped up our local department store and picked out a nice pastel blue Radley handbag marked down from £209 to £146. They have a 30 day return/refund policy so if she didn’t like it, I can get a refund and she can pick another one. All good so far. Out of curiosity, I've looked on the Radley website and on there it’s been marked down from £209 to £99! Now, do I show her it before her birthday? If she doesn’t like it, back it goes. If she does like it, back it goes and I buy it from Radley (or give the store the opportunity to price match) and wrap it up so she can’t have it until the day but again, surprise spoiled. I’m torn! First laptop I've owned in over 7 years (akin to a plumber saying the first wrench I've owned in over 7 years)

Always had to work on client supplied kit, but I thought it was about time I bought one. Won't be used much for a while.

I could punch myself in the effing head! So, I fessed up, told her I’d got her present but could have got it nearly fifty quid cheaper. "Fifty quid"? She screeched, "You shouldn’t have even spent fifty quid on me". * Constant source of rows between us - she always wants to spend to a set budget for a given item, I want to just buy what I like and sod the cost. Anyway, I showed her it, she loved it, I showed her the one online and straight away she said "That's not the same one". Whaattt? Yep, wasn’t the same one. Found the one I bought and it wasn’t in sale and wasn’t even in stock. I felt better but again, surprise ruined! She said wrap it up, put it away and give it to me on the day and don’t even think of buying anything else.

You've managed the impossibe... you've bought her something personal that she likes!
As a woman I have to say, this is as rare as rocking horse poo... :)

If still want to get something she doesn't know about, pop her fav chocolates or tipple inside the bag when you wrap it up. Something small (keeping to her wishes) and something still she doesn't know she's getting!

Send it back, keep the money and give her nothing, that will surprise her.

Bought new AV for my PC. Last years was Norton 360, able to cover up to 20 devices, cost £45 when I bought the laptop. Renewal cost was £134.99
As I don't have 20 devices I downsized to a single device but the link they sent wouldn't work. On line chat with them and it appears my last licence didn't terminate automatically last night so they had to do it manually. Nice bonus for my trouble was they gave me an extra 30 days cover free of charge. Now fully protected again and a deep scan shows no problems with virus, spyware, malware or rootkit problems and PC is running at optimum performance. :)
