I've bought a sandwich toaster today sooo, sooo, '80s or was it '70's I'll have to put it with the bang on trend pannini press

Hah! My latest acquisition to my collection of mobile phones I used to own arrived today. I used to buy/sell/install/connect mobiles back in the day. £2,200 when new in 1986. £50 connection charge, £25 per month service charge, 5 year contract, no inclusive minutes. 50p per minute or part minute and no texts. Best bit was you got £600+ in connection commission payments from the airtime providers - the market was mad! Can store 10 numbers, no names. Boxed with instruction book and in absolutely mint condition - both batteries are good too which is a rarity for these. Had a play with it and now it’s up in the loft with it before Mrs Mottie gets in. I'm going to get them all out one day and catalogue them. I’m sure I’ve got some doubles or even trebles that I might need to get rid of.

It’s our 34th wedding anniversary next week and we should have been celebrating it in 5 star luxury in Barcelona. Of course, flights were cancelled and hotel have refunded us so today I went out and bought all the ingredients for a paella tonight including a bottle of Spanish rosé. Also bought a seafood platter, some fresh baguettes (now in the freezer) and a couple of small bottles of wine from Marks's as we will now be celebrating on the day on the beach at Mersea next week.

ooh, please let me know if any good? Mine (from the 90's!) finally died and I've already taken 2 new ones back. One had a design fault where the cheese dripped into the wiring under the plate and the other didn't get hot enough to actually toast the bread!

Still good, but a PIA to clean.

I got one for No 1 son to use while at Uni.

It has removable plates.

1st impressions of mine, not very impressive. Didn't toast the bread very well. Will persevere may just need a bit of practise. It's a Daewoo.

We used to have something like this years and years ago. You used to put a slice of buttered bread on the bottom (buttered side facing out to stop it sticking or burning), tamp it down into the curve then put your filling in the hollow - either beans, cheese or a raw egg - then another slice of buttered bread on top, close it up, trim the edges then cook it over the gas ring or even on the coal fire, constantly turning it. A tasty meal.
