More and more, Amazon is becoming my one-stop-shop including small power tools and hand tools.

As I look to buy some larger power tools I'm automatically looking there first - free next-day postage, no-quibble returns, etc.
But is it a good or even the best place? Or should I be looking to buy direct from the manufacturers? Do any online specialists have a great reputation that stands out? Amazon has spoiled me to an extent, if I can't get a guaranteed delivery date and have my item within two days it seems like stepping back in time!

For that matter, do you buy new or is second hand a good idea for larger items that should last many years? I've seen really cheap prices on GumTree for Stihl strimmers and other good makes but feel nervous.

Generally buy from wherever is cheapest.

All my woodworking machinery was second hand and at the right price. Most of that needed setting up because it's from people who bought it and used it a while not really knowing how and selling it on.

Never buy second hand batteries or cordless tools unless it's an absolute bargain.

I'm a dewalt freak and as such I buy all my dewalt stuff from dewalt freaks Goodwins in Margate, always have deals on and every time I've bought something they've always chucked a goodie into the deal for free, in some cases it's a tough system box, I've had a 5ah battery for free as a Facebook offer I didn't know about, I've had tool bags, free diamond discs, multi tool blades snd shipping is next day, it's a good job I don't live anywhere near them, it would be my second home lol!

Hi

Depends on the tool, but mainly Toolstation or Amazon. However, for more expenisive tools I will shop around. For example, bought a Bosch GOP from Axminster a few years back. It was a replace a CEL multitool from Amazon that didn't last.

Cheers

I've used Amazon for some tools, and most of the others from FFX. tooled-up.com had a good deal on a sliding mitre saw when I needed one.....
