All I know is that his name's Mike, according to one of ( if not his first ) his first posts in the electrical forum.

I reckon BAS actually works at the customer service counter at B&Q
and does a bit of sweeping up around the aisles when the store is closed, which in turn draws him close to the shelves stacked with electrical goods, which then he can not resist but to read the instructions given on the packaging, therefore giving him the knowledge in which he cares to spread amongst us. ;)

Who is ban-all-sheds?

Someone who although he knows a lot about the regs just insults anyone that does not rather than explain why they should not be doing it the correct way in a reasonable manner.

I hope he & you all have a happy new year celebration.

You do not have to be a qualified electrician/engineer to interpret what a book full of words and diagrams say !

My bet is that Ban all Sheds has or had a shop where he gave sensible advice to people looking to buy items for DIY work. ... And very likely that shop was made non profitable when DIY sheds opened up and sold items to DIYers without any sensible advice being offered.
Whilst that would make sense, I think that (if the comments/suggestions are serious), people here are probably underestimating him and the nature of his 'background' - and there are a few clues in some of what he writes as to his possible/probable background.

I also agree with most of his comments but feel he would be more effective in safeguarding DIYers and their families and property if he was a bit more polite in his way for expressing his valid and apparently genuine concerns.
I think most of us agree wholeheartedly with all that. His heart is almost certainly in the right place, and electrical safety is clearly not the only one of his 'passions' - for example, matters of 'animal rights' and issues involving the disadvantaging of groups of the community (e.g. in relation to solar panel FiTs) seem to stir him equally.

Kind Regards, John.

Some clues for those with the time and inclination to do research.

This was the thread which resulted when BAS 'left' the IET Forum (alias nonsparky).

It seems that he then spent some time on the ScrewFix electricians' forum before suddenly leaving and shortly after that, turned up here again. I don't remember exactly, but someone remarked at the time that they were surprised to see him here again as he'd 'sworn never to return', or something similar.
