Will Cameron sort this one out?

Norcon.

The facts are this:

She had secret talks with IRA when publicly saying she would not negotiate with them.

She signed the SEA .

Do you deny these facts which are a matter of public record?

Simple yes or no.

You're now claiming Maggie negotiated with the ira which is also bull.
There is a big difference between wanting to cooperate with other European countries and remaining sovereign and giving away sovereignty to Europe.
Maggie believed the former.
The SEA was a neoliberal wet dream.

The Court of Justice of the European Union last week ruled that the UK will no longer be able to offer a reduced 5% rate of VAT on energy-saving products for homes – a decision that drew an angry response from the Energy Saving Trust and insulation products manufacturer Knauf.

A statement from the EU court read: “The United Kingdom cannot apply, with respect to all housing, a reduced rate of VAT to the supply and installation of energy-saving materials, since that rate is reserved solely to transactions relating to social housing.”

Cameron claims to want to stop Europe meddling in our affairs, so perhaps he could start with this one. Clearly insulation products will now be going up in price.

On a wider note, is Cameron really up to the job of re-negotiating our relationship with the EU? He has been slapped down so many times.
For all her faults, Maggie would not have been so spineless when dealing with Europe.

Don't buy into the Maggie Myth . Like she did with other things , She talked the talk but didn't walk the walk.

She signed the SEA.

Anyone would think she didn't join forces with Reagan to push back the iron curtain.

And have you forgotten the EU rebates?

Far from perfect, but give her credit for what she did achieve.

Cameron won't do anything. Remember the immigration down to tens of thousands 'no ifs - no buts' pledge in 2010. He's stated he wants two terms (if he's being honest), and as he's into his second term he will just coast through, talking tough but not really wanting to make any waves that could threaten him in any way. That's what all PMs try to do now. Bulls*it their way in and coast through, not wanting to scare the horses.

As for dealing with The EU - parachute Nige into a safe Tory seat, make him minister for Europe, and send him over to squeeze Merkel's nuts until the pips squeak. He won't take any prisoners.

Me saying it gain won't change anything.
Anyone here is able to google Thatcher IRA secret talks.

Indeed, but also be realistic about the difference between her public utterances and her actual deeds.

You're quite right, of course.
Even the Labour party are now beginning to come to terms with a possible referendum and withdrawal from the EU, but neither they nor Cameron actually want us to leave. Neither do the Greenies, the SNP or the Limp Dems (who are they?).
There is only one party, and their leader, who DO want us to leave the EU. Even so they actually demand, not that we leave outright, but that we have a fair referendum on the matter and, assuming the majority vote is to leave, that we leave the EU without hesitation.
I really cannot see what is undesirable with having a referendum on the matter, yet Cameron and others would prefer us not to have one, but to continue dictating to us that we remain under the jackboot just because it suits their personal benefit.
And there's me thinking we live in a democracy.

She (Maggie) stood up to Argentina.

Would Cameron have done that......?

To go back to the main topic - Cameron is not up to negotiating with the EU.
He was even given a dressing-down by the Polish prime minister the other day, for threatening not to give the 800 000 Poles in the UK the comforts they deserve.

Have they forgotten when we got involved in a little bother over Poland in 1939?

Of course not. He's a wimp.

I get the impression that we are the recipient of much derision by most other EU members. They certainly have short memories, anyway.
Probably all our own fault, though. They quite rightly see us as weak and, as a consequence, take full advantage of us.
Then there are our own Europhiles who cannot see beyond the end of their noses.

Yep - as I have said before, we are not generally liked by most (if not all) of Europe and especially by the 'bigger' EU countries.

Not so sure much of it stems from us being seen as weak or submissive. Some of it stems from history (let's face it we fought most of Europe at one time or another) but I am sure a lot of it stems from Europe's experience of our 'tourist exports'.

I am fully convinced that many Europeans only experience of Brits stems from seeing them 'in holiday mode' so is it any wonder they think we are a cunch of bunts??

IMHO of course...........

Yes, we have fought most of Europe in the past. Of course, they have also fought each other too, yet they seem to be all good pals in collusion against us. Why?

Well, I can agree with you about British tourists abroad. To be quite honest, when I have been on holiday abroad I have never seen any foreigners acting like yobs (although I suppose there must be some somewhere), yet it is well known that Brits commonly display such behaviour.

Again, why? Perhaps it's our 'sick society'. Who's to blame for that?

Many have forgotten that the Poles helped win the Battle of Britain!

No, they are not forgotten, and their pilots were among the best in the Battle of Britain.
But we got involved in that mess in the first place over Poland!

(Having said that, if it wasn't over Poland it would have been some other country - Hitler had to be stopped at some point).

Again, why? Perhaps it's our 'sick society'. Who's to blame for that?

I have to say that I hesitate to blame HM Government (of whatever colour) Neither do I blame all parents.

IMHO, The Media and advertsing are the culprits. TV companies and newspapers (including specialist gossip magazines) fall over themselves to promote the next 'came from nowt' celebrity. TV channels chock full of talent shows, made in xxxx shows and docu-dramas of all shapes and sizes on b£$$%^ks (and even documentaries on those!)

Advertisers going all out to promote the latest in everything for kids/teenagers.

Is it any wonder that kids grow up in an environment where they (and their parents) are pressurised into keeping up with the latest trends and where what little education they get about life from TV tells them they can 'make it' without the need for a 'proper job'??

The value of both money and 'proper' work is lost to them.

If you think back to what we were 'fed' (on TV) as kids then you will realise the difference. Even soaps and comedy programmes displayed the value of employment - whatever that may jave been.

Bring back programmes on Fred Dibnah (yeah - I know he has gone to that chimney stack in the sky)...........

Ermmm...rant over...

Things were better when you knew you'd get a shocking smack in the face for idiotic behaviour.. Sad but true.
