Yes it will, but as the need for oil decreses, so the price will drop, and desperate producers with nothing else to their economy will suffer, and that will cause a knock on effect to their countries. There are 9 oil fired power stations left in the UK, and they'll be converted or decommisioned at some point, and there are now only 14 left in the USA.

Some of the countries that produce oil are also in sunny parts of the world which may include deserts not used for housing or agriculture.

So too are some underdeveloped countries without oil.

China has a cheap energy policy, and pollution is now so bad that even the ruling billionaires have noticed.

They may all decide to install solar farms. Once installed, the production cost of energy is very low. Cheap energy can be a great help in development.

I think its been taken back from ISIS control rather than any need for US oil.

The car ownership paradigm will probably slowly shift to not owning one as such but just summoning one on demand. As it stands cars spend the majority of time idle.

China wants to reduce its dependency on foreign energy supplies - they are making a huge push into electric cars. Forty per cent of all electric cars sold in the world are sold in China.

The straights of Malacca are a choke point. That is why they are building a new silk route through pakistan to connect them to the middle eastern and european markets.

Petro economies in the ME will be facing a perfect storm of falling demand and prices and a poorly educated workforce. Expect them to solve this through loading their economies and public with debt.

I was pretty hot on the idea of a Tesla Model S 75D a few months ago, I even started the order process, but they had some delays which gave me a chance to re-think. I'd still like one, but then I have a quick look at similarly priced cars and even taking in to account fuel and servicing costs, its about 20k over priced. I suspect the prices will drop a bit over the coming months as they are getting their production numbers up.

With the supercharging option its a viable car, as after 200 miles driving, I'd want a 30 minute break anyway. My other suspicion is they are silent recalling failed components under the guise of performance/service upgrades. There are a lot of earlier models which have been offered "firmware" upgrades.

As a Truck driver I've been commenting on this on different fora so here's a C & P of the gist of "Electric Trucking"

Using Musks figures of 300mile range we could trunk down to Taunton - 1 hour supercharge (our break time + 15 mins) and get back to Peterborough. Round trip about 360 miles. That usually uses 220 litres per vehicle everynight (2 vehicles each way = 4 vehicles (2 up 2 down for each depot). We rarely run max weight as we carry food. Ok.. Sometimes we run with a full load of cheese or Sunny D but that could be trunked to our Redditch depot (50% of the way) and then trunked from there.

Battery change when we get back in readiness for Day Shift to commence.

It is feasible and could make a major saving in running costs.

As for Terraced house charging ... Start thinking of wireless charging from lamp posts etc. Heck you only need onboard battery power to get you to the main trunk road as impulse charging strips could be embedded in the road.

A long video but noted the 'illegal' 1500w motor. That is now categorised as a motorbike and should be taxed/licenced/MOT'd/insured etc etc as such. Any road traffic incident involving this machine the owner will bear the 'blame', no matter how innocent he may be as he is riding an illegal bike.
