I really do not understand his reasoning with regards to tariffs. He says there will be blanket minimum tariffs of 10-20% on all imports. He says that the tariffs will push Americans to buy American products. For that to happen, the import needs to become relatively more expensive than the domestic product. When asked, he says that the importer will absorb the cost of the tariff, meaning that US consumers will not pay more for the imported product. There will therefore be no financial incentive to by the more expensive American equivalent.
He additionally says that the tariffs might enable him to do away with federal personal income taxes. If the purpose of the tariffs is to encourage consumers to buy American, it follows that imports will fall, and thus, federal income will fall. Granted, corporate tax revenue might increase, but he had promised to reduce corporate tax rates. And his tariffs will see retaliatory tariffs which will harm US exporters (lowering corporate tax revenue further).

Musk has already said that his supposed cuts in the national debt will hurt Americans. I very much doubt that it will hurt the 1%ers.

The simple fact is Labour rates in India and China are a fraction of those in the USA, so bringing manufacture back to the USA will only increase prices.
Let’s go through one sector: clothing and footwear.
The USA manufacture about 3% domestically, the rest is imported.
Given that Trump wants to boot out all the immigrants (ie cheap Labour) , it’s going to be rather difficult to onshore manufacturing….that’s are very large increase in capacity needed and that’s just one sector
There is also this false belief that when a product is imported from China, it is assumed that 100% of the value of that product went to the Chinese. This ignores the fact that 70% of the value of the product is American-made – be it the design, marketing, intellectual property

Not sure that he can do that given that he negotiated the NAFTA 2.0 (USMCA) between the USA, Mexico and Canada. He would need to scrap the deal that he set up and signed off on. If the deal was so bad, why did he hail it as a victory for America?

The other illegals, which have historically be the lion's share are people that enter legally and then disappear. How will he find them? ICE currently has about 20,000 agents. It has been estimated that he will need to increase that number to 750,000. He will also need an extra 17,000 judges to process the cases. He will need to convince congress to find 10s of billions of dollars to fund his initiative. Granted it might save money in the longer term, but in the short term it will harm GDP. And who will pick seasonal fruit and veg? Prices will have to go up, along with the national debt.

Apparently there are 1.5 million illegals in the US who have some type of court order against them ordering them to leave the country seems that these court orders have not been enforced
On the radio news this morning an interview with some lady who illegally entered the states from Honduras 25 years ago

Fine, kick out illegals. She was there during his reign though. Why will he do what he didn't do when president? Let's not gloss over the fact that he has knowing employed illegals in the past. He did so because they were cheap and when they asked to be paid, he threatened to report them to immigration control.
Not to mention Elon is said to be building his largest factory to date in Mexico, China opening auto parts manufacturers in Mex is a big concern to him, I don't see how he can hit one without hitting the other.
