The Western standard of living appears to be based in cheap imports from Asia.
If Trump and the EU get into a tarrif war with the likes of China then prices will rise for consumers.
The idea that America and Europe can start to manufacture the stuff they presently import from Asia won't work.
The cost of labour and associated regulations would make consumer products really expensive, also where are all workers going to come from to make all these TVs, phones, washing machines, tools, microwaves, shirts, socks, shoes ect.ect.
Don't think Donald has thought this through.

Come on, that's liberal twaddle. So US has only started deporting illegals since Trump was elected? You seem to be forgetting that The US has had tough immigration laws and control for a very long time - through necessity.
Just because you stay under the radar for a long time and work illegally, you can't expect special immigration status or favours. Not fair on legal immigrants.

And then there are the costs of building the factories and the delays in developing supply chains. Not all US manufacturers have gazillions of dollars sitting in their bank accounts.
There are over 8m illegals estimated to be working in the USA. There are 6.5m unemployed people in the USA. The USA would need millions of migrants to fill the roles of the people he has promised to deport and to work in the supposed new factories.
Some of those people work illegally, marry a rich orange guy, and then get to ship their parents over. Not fair on legal immigrants who followed the process. Mind you, Elon Musk worked illegally in the USA too.

Fair enough, but he is talking about tariffs on things that America cannot produce even if they wanted to, eg bananas (which cannot be grown in America).
In no way am I holding him responsible for immigration regulations that existed before he entered politics, but he blatantly gamed the system. Melania entered on an "Einstein visa". She wasn't an A-list model, and America was not lacking models at the time. To date I have never heard him say that he will level the playing field, by which I mean I have not heard him say that he will prevent rich people from taking advantage of their ability to convince the authorities to give their immigrant of choice special favours.

I very much doubt that he currently (knowingly) has illegals working for him. That said, he believes that he is untouchable.

Apparently you have to be within 15 degrees of the equator. The banana that we are used to in the UK is the Cavandish. It is a clone.You can only grow it from other clones. The little black seed (read: almost invisible seeds) are not capable of growing into a banana.
