Will Trump deliver what he has promised?

There is also this false belief that when a product is imported from China, it is assumed that 100% of the value of that product went to the Chinese. This ignores the fact that 70% of the value of the product is American-made – be it the design, marketing, intellectual property

The IP is often held offshore. Take Apple as an example, or rather booked overseas. The Apple stores in the UK once ran at a loss because they had to pay AIO (registered in Ireland) a premium to use the Apple branding in their stores. Such firms are so cash rich that they have a clear incentive to rip off Ireland/UK/etc because they only have to pay proper taxes when they repatriate the money to the USA, and they aren't going to do that until a president offers a tax holiday.

Not to mention Elon is said to be building his largest factory to date in Mexico, China opening auto parts manufacturers in Mex is a big concern to him, I don't see how he can hit one without hitting the other.

If Musk joins the Trump administration he will be obliged to sell shares in his companies. He gets to do so without paying any capital gains taxes...

The simple fact is Labour rates in India and China are a fraction of those in the USA, so bringing manufacture back to the USA will only increase prices.
It's a good point. Even when watching our very own Dragon's Den how often does a dragon say along the lines of 'you're paying how much to have it made in the UK?!? First thing we need to do is source a manufacturer in China ...'

We can't have it all ways in the west, although some seem to think we can and should.

Trump reckons he will kick out 15 million illegal immigrants

Apparently there are 1.5 million illegals in the US who have some type of court order against them ordering them to leave the country seems that these court orders have not been enforced

On the radio news this morning an interview with some lady who illegally entered the states from Honduras 25 years ago

She had to have an interpreter as should could not speak English :giggle:

No all the lawyers will be clamouring to get there snouts in the trough with endless legal challenges :giggle:

But hey ho trump will
Give it a go and fair play to the bloke

I really do not understand his reasoning with regards to tariffs. He says there will be blanket minimum tariffs of 10-20% on all imports. He says that the tariffs will push Americans to buy American products. For that to happen, the import needs to become relatively more expensive than the domestic product. When asked, he says that the importer will absorb the cost of the tariff, meaning that US consumers will not pay more for the imported product. There will therefore be no financial incentive to by the more expensive American equivalent.

He additionally says that the tariffs might enable him to do away with federal personal income taxes. If the purpose of the tariffs is to encourage consumers to buy American, it follows that imports will fall, and thus, federal income will fall. Granted, corporate tax revenue might increase, but he had promised to reduce corporate tax rates. And his tariffs will see retaliatory tariffs which will harm US exporters (lowering corporate tax revenue further).

The guy is a moron.
As are his followers if they swallow stuff that he spouts

EU have or were talking about Tariffs on Chinese cars in order to protect there home manus ?

Long before trump was elected

I presume his supporters on here will be happy to say he will achieve all those things, that’s why they support him, right?

No, I support him because he really upsets liberals. Only reason.

None of the aims in your list would affect me in the slightest. Surely you don't pay much attention to manifesto 'promises'? See Starmer for details.

The EU is putting a 17-34% tariff on Chinese EV's, that's on top of the existing 10% tariff.
The EU is (or was) Chinas biggest export market for EVs in 2023, some 400,000 units.
However these are European brands off shoring production to China, like Volvo, Smart car

So increasing tariffs hurts European brands.

USA has 100% tariff on EVs
Biden did it in Sept

Tesla have a huge plant in Germany, I wonder what Elon Musk will make of a trade war….his exports could suffer

US federal bank has given Trump the middle finger, they won’t let him take control of interest rates, so they can keep,a lid on his economy bolox

Trump will burn the economy red hot for 4 years knowing there is a delay before it crashes and burns, fickos like Filly will fall for the fake short termism

Is the EU doing it on the promise of lowering taxes for Europeans though? Or for "bringing jobs back"?

Survival.

Reading about VW I doubt there's much chance of bringing Jobs back. The German car manufacturers were against the tariffs on the basis their exports to China would be hit.

There seems to be a crisis in the auto manufacturing world brought about by the rush into EV's,, some large manufacturers will go down I'm sure.

I’m sure Bidens cognitive decline didn’t help but I don’t think that’s the main reason.
If people were feeling they were doing better than before, they wouldn’t care how away with the fairies Biden has been
They lost because Democrats were victims to post covid inflation…..prices of stuff have gone up: must be the govts fault.
Kamala Harris was parachuted in at the last moment and that can’t have helped, nobody knew much about her…I barely even knew who she was, prob same for most of us.
We often don't agree, but the gist of this, I think is right.

I heard that. The translator was the daughter, born in the USA.. Trump going to split the family up? The mother was contributing to society.

Trump's economics are fantasy. Through the rambles he calls his "weave" he can pinpoint isolated situations which sound like they work, until you ask things like, " Where are you going to get the US workers from if all the immigrants have gone. There's always a shortage of labour in the US. You're making it worse."
All the programs he wants to develop, need staff he hasn't got. If he sends plane loads "back" to Venezuela, that country has said they won't let the people off the plane.

Trump is a deluded arrogant ignorant man with a personality problem - his ego.

For decades, US GI's have gone in around the world, to make things better by killing some of the locals - Korea, VIetnam and on and on. Truman doctrine and all that. They've been paying most for NATO, they've been a dustbin for the dregs of migrants along with the rest. They DO have the best arms. They DO have good, if not the best, intelligence services tracking our mutual enemies' efforts.

Now people are asking why - why should the USA take that position, and pay for all of it? Their national debt is hardly a secret or difficult to understand.

Harris was weak on everything.
Immigration "don't come" !!. Pathetic. WHy not put together a plan to clamp down on further unwanted immigration , screen everyone etc etc, immediately get rid of the bad ones. We heard nothing much.
Economy - why not stress what was inherited and how much better it has got? Inflation is way down.
Walz's record on the various riots was a joke, no credibility there.
Like us they have endless food banks, people in work who can't feed their kids. Americans don'l see themselves expecting them any more than we do.
Harris' efforts were measly. Priice gouging she went on about - but couldn't cite any.

All she offered was more of the same policies.
Unfortunately,
because I really don't like Trump. The first thng I value is common decency. He doesn't have that.
