Wonders of the Universe

Maybe it has summat to do with the fact that we are surrounded by very reflective water.

Earth does reflect quite well, though maybe not as well as Venus. It's as much to do with clouds as water. Next time there's a crescent moon, see if you can spot the rest of it faintly lit up. That's light from a 'full Earth' (well almost full) reflecting back to us. :) :) :)
Quite so.

My original post read 'two thirds covered in ocean' then i edited to read surrounded so that would deal with the moisture in the atmos' too.

I don't understand all these remote cameras taking pictures of the moon craft leaving the moon, and rover vehicles being left on the moon, but they are not seen via a telescope.

It's said that the moon doesn't rotate, and all this stuff in on the dark side of the moon, but the moon must rotate, otherwise it wouldn't exist, in exactly the opposite rotation to the earth?

Surely if you leave all this junk on the moon, some would be visible? Bad excuse to say Oh sorry we went to the backside of the moon, where its dark, surely the moon revolves? As pictures from the moon are in the light, otherwise we wouldn't see them?

Here ya go Micky.

Images from the lunar reconnaisance orbiter missions last year. ;) ;)
BTW, the Apollo missions landed on the side of the moon which always faces earth. The reason the moon doesn't appear to spin about it's axis and is always facing the earth with the same side, is simply because the moons' spin about it's axis takes the same time as the moon takes to orbit the earth. Therefore we only see the same aspect of the moon. ;) ;)

So it needs a lunar orbiter to take pics, but, in reality, those could be photoshopped? Why can't I see any evidence of anyone landing on the moon? Who released these pictures? NASA? Bit of bias there?

Answer the question. Did man land on the moon? No proof of stuff they left, no evidence of landings, How easy is it to take a photo, of a spacecraft landing on the moon? Has anyone ever seen one?

It's easy to view the moon via a telescope, but no evidence of anyone actually being there. Who filmed Neil Armstrong getting out of his craft?

Where is the junk left over after they left, the lunar lander? on the backside of the moon, so how are the images viewable in light? If filmed in dark, you would see nothing.

I see that the argument over whether the moon landings were faked is still going on.

I concede that there is a slim chance that the FIRST one (Apollo 11) was faked - though I don't believe it myself. Just one thing lends any credence to that claim, namely the second landing (Apollo 12) just four months later which was described at the time as the non-event of the year.

The point is that Apollo 11 (supposedly) brought back moon rocks and you can't fool the geologists. If that first landing was faked, a real one would be needed ASAP to get the real rocks. ;) ;) ;)

So, to answer the original question, yes we did. :) :) :)

Micky. For some reason, you seem to think that the other side of the moon is dark. It certainly isn't. Why do you think we see the phases of the moon? Here's another link for you, which should explain why we only see one side of the moon.

The reason we can't point a telescope at the moon and see the lunar landing sites is simply because we don't have a telescope powerful enough to actually see something a few meters across from this distance. And,,, before you say scientists should point the Hubble telescope at the moon,,,, The moon is actually too close for the Hubble telescope to focus on.

You still have not digested my post about the lunar landings though, for some reason , you still think man landed on the other side of the moon.
You've been listening to far too much Pink Floyd, whilst smoking weed. ;) ;)

I think you have been drinking too much moonshine? I watched a debate the other day where Dr Brian Cox was talking to Sir Patrick Moore, and stated that the moon doesn't rotate. Who am I to believe? A badly set up website? Or professional people in their field?

What's this waffle about hubble being too close to the moon? Nonsense!

Earth based telescopes can see what's on the surface of the moon easily. But no pictures of the junk left by man. What do you do if you see a space man? Park in it man, you are certainly eating magic mushrooms.

If missions to the moon left junk behind, then they would be visible from Earth. They are not. There is a dark side to the moon, as it doesn't rotate, but why land there, as the temperatures there are too cold for humans to survive.

Question; who filmed Neil Armstong getting off the craft? Who filmed the last rover to leave? Radiowaves don't work in a vacuum, that is used for TV transmission.

Micky. When Brian Cox and Patrick Moore agree that the moon doesn't rotate,,,, They actually mean ,, it doesn't rotate , in relation to the earth. Think about this for a moment,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You know that the earth rotates,,, so the moon rotates in the same way. Just that the moon happens to rotate a lot slower than the earth,,, so we always see the same side of the moon at one time.... Such a simple concept, I'm surprised you have been unable to grasp this.

PS Neil Armstrong was so,,, obviously filmed from an external camera,, mounted on the lunar lander.

The moon does rotate as has been said, once per orbit of the earth. It's not coincidence or magic, it's gravitationally locked to that.
Earth based telescopes can't pick up details of moon shot leftovers cos it's 180,000 miles away, if they could you would only say they had been faked.
A camera bolted to the outside of the lunar lander filmed Armstrong's descent, or don't you think NASA would have thought of that.

That goes for anywhere on the moon, there's no air there neither, that's why they have spacesuits.

What an arse. the moon doesn't rotate. You talk rubbish. What an idiot. Patrick Moore or you? hmm...... (use ful stops rather than commas? Idiot.

What an a**e. the moon doesn't rotate. You talk rubbish. What an idiot. Patrick Moore or you? hmm...... (use ful stops rather than commas? Idiot.

If the moon doesn't rotate, how is the same side always facing us?

That is the most inane and banal comment ever. The moon doesn't rotate, hence we see the same side always. I think you need to go back to skool, and lern sum?

If the moon did not rotate, it would appear to rotate from our viewpoint.
