A Contractor/Customer relationship goes:
I ask you to build me a wall. You may decide you don't want to do it, and refuse. If you do want to do it, you may offer a price and other conditions, and we may or may not agree terms and create a contractual relationship. We may expressly specify in our contract the methods and standards to be used; if not, I will depend on you using your skill and experience, and knowing how to build a wall which is done to proper professional standards. If you do not do this I may be able to sue you for not doing a proper job. Specifically, if you are a contractor (not an employee) then you are responsible for the building of the wall, and it is not my business to tell you how to do it. If you are unable to do it due to for example illness, it is your responsibility to find someone else to carry out the obligation you have incurred. If your work is unsatisfactory you are responsible for putting it right at your own expense. These responsibilities are quite distinct from those of an employee.
i tend to test the floor with some kind of meter rather than dig a floor up. its much easier. For some reason i see you finding it hard to develop a card board box let alone a property!joe-90 said:If I employ you to lay a floor - that is all you do - you don't dig up the subfloor to check it out.
Gedditt yet? It's called 'living in the real world'.
I suggest you try it sometime.

You're missing the point, and since you're not stupid I have to assume that you're missing it on purpose. However, for the benefit of those members who think that you are stupid, I'll wearily have another attempt.joe-90 said:Softus. If I employ you to dig a hole - you dig a hole. Following orders is what the Third Reich officers did, not what tradespeople do. Whatever world I live in it's one in which I intend to stay, because it's one in which my customers are all very happy to engage me, and keep on engaging me, and recommend me, and keep on recommending me.Now stop being silly and try (just for a short time) living in the world of real people where you pay them to do something and they follow your orders and do it.

To reiterate - you don't employ me, because I'm self-employed. You may, if you wish, ask if you can engage my services. In your case I would of course decline, simply because of the attitude you've already illustrated towards tradespeople (in other topics). However, if I agreed, (which I wouldn't), then you would engage me, never employ me.

So you just carry on smiling at housebuyers and selling them houses, and leave the real work to the professionals.
Oh, and please do post some more answers on the "Electrics UK" forum - it's the kind of stuff that Ricky Gervais would get an award for.
