Yes, I'm A Sad Git

Don't under estimate how many.

This comes up every time they talk of moving the mot to 2 yearly.
Indeed. I've always been opposed to reduced frequency MOTs. Have you seen some of the "customer states" videos on YouTube? There's some shocking stuff in America, because they don't have MOTs. They're the best argument for an MOT test, ever!

Here's a thought - increase the mandatory interval, and introduce an optional 6-month one. Any failure at any test incurs a fine if the previous test was more than 6 months prior, and the fine increases the longer ago the previous test was.

Why change a system that works though.

It's not perfect, but it's effective

My E-class had a rear subframe that was corroded.

Design flaw causes them to rust from the inside - by the time it's visible on the outside it's pretty rotten. The guy who does the servicing alerted me.

Replaced FOC by MB, but in the meantime it had passed its MOT....

I've certainly seen things that should have failed, pass an MOT. However, by and large, it seems to work OK. I think there are areas where it could be strengthened (emissions testing at MOT is a very low bar), but I'd sooner have it than not.

Years ago, I was testing a car that had a double wishbone suspension and had the wheels jacked up. Gave the wheel a good rocking from top to bottom and the top ball joint popped out! I've lost count of the number of times over the years that a brake pipe has burst on test. Mind you, these days you don’t see as many cars with corrosion problems as you used to.

If the current system is generally fit for purpose, it's for for purpose.

There will always be ones that slip through the net, as well as outright fiddles.

As long as they're at an "acceptable" level i e. rare, there is no need to change the system afaiac.

Liberal doesn't mean lawless (y)

Quite why anyone would take the plate off (usually, something like an audi A3), leaving a screaming obvious blank square on their bumper yet thinking it looks "cool" or racy, is beyond me.

Still no accounting for (lack of) taste or class

Ironically a lot of people think the car means class, but then do things like that and expose their true level

One year I took my car in for a test, and the inspector, a freind, showed me the van he had just had to fail - it had been presented, with a front disk, completely disconnected from the wheel hub. It was making a hell of a noise, just being moved.

Looks like our Honda FRV has been destroyed.

Either it was scrapped as an MOT failure, or it was pranged.

Headlights out, rear lights out, for starters.

Id pull every last ++++ with their number plate on the dash, and give 'em a week to get it reattached to the front of the car.

Spotted again? Points and fine, or off to the crushers
I've just been a passenger in car for twenty five miles along twisty UNLIT country roads with driver who know where the headlamp adjuster is, but set to the lowest possible setting, but no F*****g idea where the dip switch is to put the lights on main beam. Oh and he knows where the throttle and brake pedals are and used them very heavily.

I've never been so scared as passenger ever before.

I've had a shower and my underpants are in the wash!

I do wish people would learn what and when that headlight adjuster should be used. If I had the power I'd ban the b****y things!
