I'm not sure if true, however someone on tv this morning said the barge was used to house 100s of servicemen for months on end during an exercise/conflict x years back. The assertion being if it was okay for them ...

Was used in Scotland for a while housing oil workers and in Europe housing homeless people during winter.

Apparently one or two migrants leaving the barge today for a visit to the local town said it (the barge) was fine. Yes rooms small but good breakfast. They were quickly ushered away by a local charity, who were probably frustrated the migrants didn't say 'it's horrendous!'
