Yes there are many unknowns, but deaths related to age, is probably the main driving force.

It simply means, the older you are, the more likely it is that Covid-19 will kill you.
All the present statistics prove that, beyond doubt.

That is probably true of many if not most diseases..What is your point?
Best way to look at catching it is that at some point over 40 needing to go into hospital may have it's complications when and if some one comes out. Also when younger but a lot less people need treatment.

It looks like PHE will log you as a Covid death, even if you are fully recovered, discharged and then die from something else. This is in contrast to how everyone else reports Covid related deaths, with a time limit on time of death from positive test. With the PHE method, eventually 100% of people who have tested positive for Covid, are defined as covid related death, even if they are killed fit and healthy in a car accident. seems a bit dumb to me and has probably damaged our economy and world standing.

Which goes to show that even intelligent people make some truly dumb decisions.
I'm a great advocate of collecting as much data as possible, but to collect (or even worse, make decisions on) flawed data is worse than guessing.

It means numbers in more recent weeks will be off by more than earlier weeks. Taking the hit-by-a-bus example the odds of that happening increases with number of people who've recovered and amount of time they're wandering around. Unlike the earliest weeks of the outbreak where we had no idea how many people had Covid-19.
But it is a bit stupid to not have a time limit.
The ONS numbers use a different metric, I haven't seen any updates on their in a while, anyone have a link to hand?
I thought death certifications were the marker? Hit by a bus, but he had Covid 2 months back: let's stick it down as Covid. Seriously?

It was a long time before UK was capable of testing large numbers, so the figures were constantly understated.
In some countries, like USA, people can't afford to be tested
You only see them in the excess deaths figures.
