what is "offal"?

It is the 'entrails' (left over bits :D) and organs of an animal - it can include brain, tongue, feet, etc, etc

There was a documentary on tv a few years ago about a well known fast-food hamburger chain, who 'apparently' have been using a lot of 'offal' in their products (it showed you some of the stuff at a factory that was getting minced and made into burgers  )

well geez....I was thinkin you meant "awful" and I didn't want to criticize....

after giving the "white pudding" some thought....

is it fruit as apple, peaches, oranges......

or are we talking melon balls?

One thing i remember from being a kid was Pickled Herrings.

My mom used to steam Pickled Herrings with onions and vinegar in a pressure cooker, did anybody have this meal?

Sounds disgusting but we used to love it but some ban on Herrings came in and it died a death.

Freddie

had the roll mop herring in vinegar before .....with mash an peas ...not very nice

My Mum said when she went to my Dad's Mum's for the first time when she was just a mere slip of a girl at 16 (approx 1969), she saw something bubbling away on the stove and went to investigate.

It was a sheep's head rolling around with the eyes flashing at her on every roll.

I have been to my old grans an she had pigs trotters in a pan once an the smell ...I was weeping from the stink ...

Not on the same scale but I can remember when we had chips, they were made in a pan of lard that set hard in between uses.
