Breastfeeding in public

I didnt watch the programme about breastfeeding but I heard about it.
I think its awful that mothers still feed their kids at 9 years old.
I dont believe that there was any improper motives on the mothers part and I think the child would simply find it a comfort... but children have to be taught to fend for themselves and stopping feeding is a must. ( Sorry but the body is capable of getting its nutrients without breast milk by that age.
I fed my 3 children until about 9months old.
This was met with mixed response but I didnt ever make a big deal of it.
Not so much because of the fact that there may have been a glimpse of my naked breasts but more because of the fact that babies when feeding are quite often sick, burp, and pump very loudly and persistently for England (or whereever) and it is this which causes the attention ( and guffaws too!!)
I have been told to feed in the toilets too, to which my reply was as expected... no.
I do think it should be done discreetly, not through shame but for the reasons above.
Babies are often pumping and burping and sick and all this when feeding and also, they tend to suck like mad, which tells the milk supplies to open the flood gates and then baby decides to take a mid feed nap and leaves mam fighting with a squirting milk flow which wont stop!!!!

Arrrggghhh....
anyway.. that was a few years ago and Im glad to have moved on a bit.

 That's it - I'm reporting the guy who comes around with the Ice Cream van. Not once have I seen someone in there giving their bairn it's dinner

hmm. maybe it is only scotland then.. cant find english bit... oh well step in right direction.

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/legislation/scotland/acts2005/20050001.htm

[code:1]1 Offence of preventing or stopping a child from being fed milk

(1) Subject to subsection (2), it is an offence deliberately to prevent or stop a person in
charge of a child from feeding milk to that child in a public place or on licensed
premises.

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply if the child, at the material time, is not lawfully permitted
to be in the public place or on the licensed premises otherwise than for the purpose of
being fed milk.[/code:1][/code]

This isn't quite the same as saying that every retail outlet must make provision for breastfeeding.

I too got asked to feed one of my sons in the loo - me and hubby got up and walked out. We'd ordered food and they were about to serve it so that was wasted - their loss! No one could see anything anyway as I used to use a breast feeding shawl

Worst thing was when we had some visitors to the house and baby needed feeding. I sat down and prepared myself and the bloke said 'Do you mind, that's disgusting!' Hubby showed him the door - pervert!

Nothing at all against feeding in public but when a child can walk and talk then it's time to stop IMHO. I know someone who fed her kids until they were about six and they are really clingy mummified brats

Im all for breastfeeding in the right place and time though some mothers think it's their god given right to pull out their tit in your face say in a restaurant while you are eating and that should not be allowed.
