I didnt watch the programme about breastfeeding but I heard about it.
I think its awful that mothers still feed their kids at 9 years old.
I dont believe that there was any improper motives on the mothers part and I think the child would simply find it a comfort... but children have to be taught to fend for themselves and stopping feeding is a must. ( Sorry but the body is capable of getting its nutrients without breast milk by that age.
I fed my 3 children until about 9months old.
This was met with mixed response but I didnt ever make a big deal of it.
Not so much because of the fact that there may have been a glimpse of my naked breasts but more because of the fact that babies when feeding are quite often sick, burp, and pump very loudly and persistently for England (or whereever) and it is this which causes the attention ( and guffaws too!!)
I have been told to feed in the toilets too, to which my reply was as expected... no.
I do think it should be done discreetly, not through shame but for the reasons above.
Babies are often pumping and burping and sick and all this when feeding and also, they tend to suck like mad, which tells the milk supplies to open the flood gates and then baby decides to take a mid feed nap and leaves mam fighting with a squirting milk flow which wont stop!!!!
Arrrggghhh....
anyway.. that was a few years ago and Im glad to have moved on a bit.
